After doing about 50 miles yesterday I am deeply impressed with the PDK and the S has oodles of power even though for obvious reasons I am going easy but this is quite a strain.

Its great to get back in a 911 having been Porschless since my previous car went too the OPC at the end f July.

I remember having a test drive of an S coupe at my supplying OPC - their first Gen2S with only 17 miles on the clock. I was encouraged to give it welly and it went link stink. Maybe an arguement for never buying a demonstrator but it certainly made me sign on the dotted line etc etc.

Of course I will be more carin g with my baby.

Looks great - and for my money give in welly when past 200 miles (brakes and tyres bedded in) and only when engine and oil up to temp then no problem.

Just put your foot down in first gear - bet you can't change gear before you hit 4K rpm!!!!!

PDK is amazing isn't it?

Perhaps we can get a pic of both Aqua Cabs together. I prefer your red calipers to my silver, but mine will soon be yellow!

As I've said before PDK = pretty da** kwik.

Must admit revs did swing round to abot the no 5 mark when I was not concentrating.

The sound from the exhaust with the roof down is really quite good and makes me wonder if the forthcoming sports exhaust is worth it. Certainly was on my Gen 1 C2 though.

Does that mean you are retrofitting ceramics or changing your car again?

Neither, thinking of getting them painted to match the yellow seat belts and stitching.

I'm also waiting for the sports exhaust to arrive.

I have not tried my wind stop yet. Is it any good? I drove, allbeit quite slowly, without it on Friday and did not think I needed it. Anyone know at what speed it becomes essential?

The wind breaker will give more or less draught free driving (with the front windows up) up to very high speeds. If I want to blow my hair all over the place anything above about 30mph is quite windy. With the roof down I tend to use the wind breaker 95% of the time.

Personally I prefer the red calipers to the yellow.

I found the wind deflector to be one of the most essential options on the cabriolet..
Its effect can be felt from at least 30mph..

I second that. The wind deflector on my previous car (Boxster) didn't do much at all, but on the 911 it's a brilliant addition, if a bit fiddly to fit. Even in cold weather the cabin can be quite cosy with the heater on and the seat heaters on. My hands don't get frozen as they did in the Boxster.

On another point, we keep hearing reviewers talking about the 'lack of stiffness' in the 997 cabrio compared to the coupe. This is nonsense! I've driven both, in anger, and can't tell the difference. The 997 cabrio was actually designed and developed as a separate project by Porsche and is not just a 'coupe with the roof cut off and a bit of extra welding added', as the Top Gear crew et al would have us believe.

Sorry to bang on, but the cabrio is the absolute dogs danglies for me as it's really two cars in one. Dropping the roof on a sunny day completely transforms the driving experience and you don't even need to go that fast to make the drive enjoyable - so it helps to preserve the licence (says me with 9 points!) So it's good to see a thread involving cab owners, for a change.

The blue looks gorgeous by the way. Mine's atlas which has just a hint of bluey/purple in certain lighting conditions - lovely!
