Now a proud new owner of a 964 Carrera 2 Coupe in Granite Grey. 132K with a full engine rebuild at 120K at Hartech. New flywhell at 93K.

Initial thoughts:

Far more refined than I expected, not that much more noisey than the 944S2 but noticeably faster.

Other stuff:

I find the gearbox gate very narrow and struggled to find 1st and could not find reverse at all. I now realise, from the manual, that you need to depress the clutch for a few seconds to get reverse and now goes in fairly easily.

I will need to get used to the gearbox more I suppose, let the box do the work instead of trying to force the stick into a slot which isn't there. When I get it right (which is mostly) slots in nicely. Funnily enough, I had no problems at all with gear selection on the test drive.

The right hand indicator does not work. The hazard flashers come on and all indicators flash when I set the alarm. Checked the fuses, but obviously no problems as the lights work. Could not find the relay, but I would be surprised if there were separate relays for right and left. So, I guess its the column switch at fault, which sounds expensive, unless it is just a loose connection. Has this happened to anyone else?

I was trying to get a spare alarm plipper, Reading OPC offered me an alarm upgrade which includes a new motherboard and 2 new plippers for £261 fitted. Does anyone know if this is a worthwhile upgrade?

I still can not get a piccy to appear under my name, which is infuriating[>:][>:][][]

Hopefully this one has come out, it was the dealer's publicity shot!

Congrats on the car.

Don't have any issues like yours with my gearbox (135k) maybe an oil change or bleed in order?!?

Column switches on ebay a lot of the time, or try one of the breakers (don't know how much a new one is)

Re the alarm, mine had the standard porsche one fitted when I bought (fitted when new in 1990) I fitted a new Thatcham one system for around £300 including removal of the old system. If you get T1 approval with the OPC one it doesn't sound that bad a price.

Have fun with it.

Rob

Congrats with the car. How much use had the car had before you got it? I only ask because my car was a real pig to select first gear when I first got it. It had done only 2 or 3 thousand miles in the last year and been off road for a good 3 months before I got hold of it. It then improved over the next few thousand miles. The car may just need using![:D]

However, I did eventually need a new clutch [] after about 6 thousand miles or so (I hope this isn't the case for you).

mines a bugger in the morning and gets better as it warms up.. I think these boxes are a little old fashioned in that respect, but really good to work with once upto temp!.. Mines going in for a trans oil change week after next; seems pretty cheap job to have done so worth it IMHO for peace of mind and knowing the condition of the fluids (I changed the oil pretty much straight away just so I knew where I was when I got mine, trans oil has taken me a little longer to get done)

I guess that's how I would describe it too, but try the reversing trick which seems to help all round.

Why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why can I not get a picture to come up?

Welcome to the club (finally) colin[:)]

The steering column switch is easy to change and there's one on ebay at the moment. Personally I bought a new one because I wanted to add an OBC tacho and I thought that any secondhand one is also 15+ years old and may also break. The full monty one I bought was about £200 but they're about £150 if you just want the normal 2 stalk (including headlamp washer).

I created my avatar pic by using microsoft paint to reduce the size to less than 145 x 145 (and < 20KB) and then uploaded this through my control panel. Sometimes its best to pic a standard avatar first, get that working and then try replacing it with an uploaded pic. Make sure you click the 'apply' button and then the 'OK' button at the bottom of the control panel when making changes.

think your avatar issue might be the file size (physical pixel dimensions) is correct but the file size (how big it is in kb) is over the limit..

Greetings Colin

Guys, keep an eye on 911UK.com who will be organising a day at Silverstone or Bedford in October(ish).

I'm also booked on the PCGB midweek day at Oulton in October. Hopefully there will be a few other 964s there?[:)]

1st of September, is that another one of those this week, next week, sometime, never lines they keep feeding you?

Track days? I've only just got it, I don't want to break it straight away!!

Good choise in colour, I bought my car in march this year and took my car around nurburgring in May. Because I had just bought the car I did not push it (although did spin the car). You will not trash the car unless you think the car will get you out of trouble when trying to get to the limits.
It was my first track day and not my last, go for it.

Congrats on the car. Track days are safer then the Ring, especially if you are still getting used to the feel of the car. I've done both and they certainly help. Bedford is a good one to start with cos if you go off or wide it doesn't matter. Loads of run off !!
I know I just went there and did a 360 !! Great fun. Probably wouldn't say that if I did it at the Ring cos you pay for all damage, cosure of the Ring AND fixing your own car. Not cheap if it goes wrong.

Don't have the same issues with the gears although it is easier to change when engine warmer.

Enjoy and watch it in the wet.

Cheers
Trevor
