My new car

New to this part of the forum, as have just acquired an RS. It's the one Paul McLean at GT Classics was selling - Guards Red LHD. Haven't actually seen it yet but Camerons Sports Cars will have it tomorrow, so with a bit of luck, I'll get it for the bank holiday w/e (let's hope the weather is good). It might even mean the GT3 gets left on the drive all weekend!

Hopefully, I'll be able to get along to the next register meet.

cheers

Ellis

Happened to be at Paul s last Friday .....if that was ur red one in his unit ur getting a nice car , well known to people here ...............enjoy

If it is the red LHD one on GT Classics website it look to have a great spec. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it.

I'm guessing that you must be the chap who was tracking your GT3 at PCGB Castle Combe (was it Goodwood?) earlier this year, as there can't be too many 997 GT3s in RS Orange that aren't also RSs. I think you also mentioned that you were looking for a 993 RS. So if my dodgy memory hasn't completely imagined this conversation with you at the track, congratulations on scratching that itch.

yes, was me at Castle Combe in April. If I recall correctly there were two 993 RSs there that day, one in dark blue and the other in yellow - which was yours?

Have been looking hard all summer and finally tracked down a good car and a fair price. It's good to hear the comments about Paul - he strikes me as a good guy to deal with, but this does add comfort. The car is now being delivered tomorrow AM (to Camerons), so with a bit of luck, I'll have it for the BH weekend (I haven't actually seen it yet!).

Hopefully I'll be at the last track day of the year at Castle Combe. Just got to decide which car to take (I've switched the GT3 to Cup tyres, which are awesome, but haven't had the time to track it since).

cheers

Well done, IMHO that is a car to drive, and enjoy.

A really usable car.

I met the previous owner of the car several times at various track or race days. Lovely chap and looked after his cars well. Good motor and did appear a very reasonable price

thanks for all the comments, seems like the car and Paul McLean are very well regarded. I've just seen the car for the first time as it's now at my guys' place and it's lovely. Really nice condition, huge file of invoices (inc 21k euros at Manthey on an engine rebuild), MoTs etc, so good provenance. All in all, very pleased. It's getting its MoT and tracker tomorrow, so should be let loose in it on Saturday - can't wait.

You have a good memory. Mine was the Midnight Blue one at Castle Combe in April. I'm the bloke who looks a bit like Sven Goran Erickson, but without his succes with women or his bank balance (maybe there's a connection there?).

I was interested to hear that an engine rebuild for one of these things cost EUR 21K. I dare say Manthey aren't the cheapest, but as it wasn't you paying the bill I suppose the cost doesn't matter now.

As for which of your fleet to take to the final Combe track day of the year, how could you not take the RS, plus with Michelin Cups on your GT3 if you take that it is odds on to chuck it down. Whatever you take, have fun and stay safe.

Cheeky Matt .............................giving someone else a lift who was !

I would love to have a ride down once again to have a peek at Paul's motors, but it is such a long way away for me unfortunately![&o]

Apologies for my cheekiness Vic! [;)]

Grogger - yes, I remember you and the car - was very envious at the time!

Castle Combe - just noticed its not a "loud" day, so that makes the decision for me (first time through the test in April my GT3 was 108dB!!!)

Vic - no need to fret, this car is going to be used as Porsche intended. It will be driven in anger....

try again......

Looks superb! Nice and "understated" with the standard wing package and in a brilliant colour too! I bet it won't be in the garage much this weekend...ENJOY!

well, first couple of days in the RS. What can I say - it's a whole lot more raw and direct than my 997 GT3. It makes a great noise! The suspension is way harder than the GT3 in sport mode. Being a left hooker it feels like I'm sat in the ditch - I've just about learned to position the car on the road and stoip tracking the cats eyes (especially B roads). All in all, its a much more involving experience than the GT3. And sat next to each other on the drive, it looks tiny.

A big thank you to Paul @ GT Classics for selling the car and to Simon @ Cameron Sports Cars for sorting everything out. Next up is Zaff to detail it and then we can start thinking about some projects for the winter.
