My new toy

I'm new to this forum, so Hi all.

Have been looking for a new toy and have just bought this little jem for not a lot of money. It hasn't been of the road since 2004 and has been left parked outside. Unfortunately, the interior is trashed due to a leaking sunroof and it doesn't currently run. But hey, gives me something to do in the cold winter nights to follow.

Its a 1982 2.5 manual, has done around 91k miles with enough history to back this up. It looks pretty unmolested and the body is very straight.

I've been into BMW's for quite a few years, currently have a '97 540i touring and an '82 320 Baur convertable. My father inlaw has a very nice '82 911SC (he's a member of PCGB) and I've always been impressed with these cars. This one just seemed too much of a bargain to miss. Complete with its (still good) gold exterior and beige/brown interior, its just sooo cool!

Looking forward to a new challenge. [:D]

welcome to the forum and congrats a fine choice of car, you'll find it a friendly place here with many owners able to advise you on anything you may need to know about the 944.

welcome

Pete

Hello,
You will get help and encouragement on here ,sounds like your chuffed with it, i love BMW,s and have owned quite a few choice examples.
But the 944 somehow ticks more boxes than BMW,s i have owned, enjoy...............fix it and drive it !

And edited to say be proud of it [:D]

Welcome, you right, i grace a few forums and know that people on here are friendly, non patronising and helpfull, everything you need. Watch the 944, playing with them is addictive and its a car you will love rather than just an a to b motor, have fun with your new toy, cheers

Hi and welcome, once you get her back on the road am sure you will love it. Great to see a non runner being brought back to life rather than binned. [:)]

Thanks guys. The car's living at work for now, so I'll get my mitts on it next week and see if I can get it running. I can't hear the fuel pump running, so I suspect that its either seized or the relays knackered. Apparently, it did run until the previous owner left it for a while and then it refused to start after he'd charged the battery.

I plan to chuck it in for an MOT once I've got it running, just to see what I've let my self in for! The interior is a mess and will be the first thing the hit list once the car has proved its self to be sound. I've been browsing the net looking for complete interiors. I assume that this could take a while though. How much should I expect to pay for a decent cloth interior?

Hi and welcome
This is a a great place to be at and by far the best 944 place on the net.
Get it going and enjoy the most addictive car on the road.

Mike

Keep checking e-bay and try Porsch apart for interiors (although they are geting pricey) £150 plus vat and carriage for a replica rear cup !
I wonder what my other genuine set is worth then ?
Try checking out James at only 9 based Nr Manchester seems spot on and reasanoble price wise.
DME Relays are famous for stopping 944's running they sense the car cranking over then at 45 rpm switch fuel and ignition on a lot of owners carry a spare.
My new project has had a claying, machine polish and a coat of poorboys wax today, then a run out looks wicked, few jobs still left to make it perfect.
Enjoy and feel free to ask as someone on here will have the answer.
Jim.
