This is my 944 turbo 1987. been sitting in the garages for years and my dad never had the time to fix it. After waiting long enough, ive took on the project myself.

Few little expensive parts to clean up the car:

£150 for the porter cable
£150 on all the cleaning products in that picture

Last recent update on the porsche is the alloys:

Got them refurbished white because ive seen alot of red cars with white alloys on and they look the part

£280 on alloys refurbished
£390 on all the tyres

After i come back from my holiday, il will try and get it out on a sunny day and give it a good clean. the drag it back into the garage so i can use the porter cable to clean up the paint work.

Its going to be a long term project. I would love to get it upto 400bhp. My plans are:
  • Full leather interior
  • engine bay spotless with polished pipes, chromed parts, and blue silcone hoses
  • hopefully get uprated brakes, suspension
  • replace the HU with a OEM porsche cd player or a suitable HU that suits the style of the dash.
Ive got loads of questions that i need advice on so bare with me [:)]

Because its been sitting for awhile, anything you guys would recommend looking at / changing?
any parts you recommend uprating?
any sites you reckon i should look at?
Recommend a decent brake supplies? Any brand of discs or pads?
any OEM porsche parts sites?

One more, im after a full system for the turbo, know anywhere i can get one?

And Yes it does run :D running rich and idling badly but runs :D

What you guys think?

Much as my personal preference is not for red cars they do suit wheels in black or white so I think the wheels will look superb.

Take it steady and get the car running as it should before you try to get any more out of it. Looking at the general condition of it I predict some time spent chasing things like boost leaks and electrical issues because of the rubber going hard etc. That will be surprisingly expensive to fix and you don't want to have spent more than you intended to / can afford to to have a car that doesn't go with some non-standard bits on it that make it worth less than if it was original.
 
As Fen said, start by budgeting to change anything that's rubber - hoses, bushes, brake lines, vacuum lines, etc. From my experience you would also do well to change the HT leads/spark plugs/dist cap/rotor arm. Then get her running for a couple of months to shake out any other gremlins before spending serious money on upgrades.

Does the clutch still work or has it welded after all this time?

Oh, and don't forget to take her to the rolling road before you start and after each stage so that you can see what improvements you are making [;)]
 
That'll look good (the white wheels).

You'll want to change the timing belt and the balance belt too.... [8D]

yeah its the first thing im going to do once its on the road. see what bhp its lost over the years [8D]
 
When you're looking for a suitable head unit, I recommend the Becker Grand Prix. Fitted one last month to my own 944 Turbo, and it's outstanding. Top quality sound etc, lots of toys, but really fits in well with the period dash. Google it and you should turn up plenty of pictures/info.

The Meguiars polisher is that the 110v version?

its the Porter Cable 7424. All the meguiars polishing products for it and the pads. and yes its 110v.
 
been looking at the parts you recommend changing. for the HT leads, spark plugs DC and rotor arm, is this ok:

Also someone said about boost leaks, should i get this:

Factory replacement hoses and connectors can be very expensive to purchase from Porsche. Looking for an alternative? These kits contain 25 feet of 5/32" Purosil silicone tubing (-65º F to 350º F maximum operating range) and 3 heat/oil/fuel proof plastic 'T's. Enough hose to replace all the hard plastic lines in your engine compartment.

Vacuum lines are essential for sending a vacuum signal to the [1] Fuel Pressure Damper, [2] Fuel Pressure Regulator, [3] By-Pass Valve, [4] KLR Computer, [5] Heater Vacuum Controls and Wastegate.

Same about belts:

The camshaft drive belt and balance shaft drive belts are both toothed poly belts that should be changed every 36,000 - 48,000 miles. It is recommended to update all the rollers and tensioner wheels are these will ensure the belts run smoothly and accurately
The kit contains all the items you need to complete this job at minimal cost. All parts are OEM with Bosch belts. Tensioner and Roller parts are made by Ruville. If you have noise from the front of your engine - it is possible that the bearings in these vital parts are worn. Replacement results in smooth quiet running and peace of mind too. The consequences of a broken cam belt are well known, hence this is an excellent preventative maintenance kit for any 924S/944 8 valve model.

Please tell me if its worth getting these or not? or if there are better parts?

I'd use standard ignition leads as new OE ones will be plenty good enough and I don't believe any of the fancy ones bring any improvement whatsoever.

The vacuum kit is quite good though I have a feeling people (John?) have had problems with it blowing off? I have the Lindsey Racing one (which I assume this is identical to) and it was fine for me. There's an awful lot more to replacing rubber than can contribute to boost leaks though and it's the stuff under the inlet manifold that will be most brittle as it sits near the turbo and has been heat cycled many many times.

If those belts are genuine then fine, but if they're pattern then avoid and get OE ones. They sound cheap if it includes all the rollers. You'll also want a water pump and a tensioner.

Why not try Exeter OPC and say you're from "the forum" and see what Chris will do them for? I'd buy OE every time for this sort of stuff so long as the price is comparable.

last week i ordered some wheel nuts for the car. the nuts for 16 came to £85 :eek:

there are still spots that i just couldnt get rid of the dirt. the front arches need a better cleaner because its plastic. depending on the price, i might just buy new ones

and now its back in the garage ready for me to start masking up the plastic and rubbers so i can start using my porter cable.
what do you think guys?
 
Do you live in a bad area as someones nicked your wheels and the driveway [:D][:D] !!!. Seriously though it looks to be coming on very well !!!

I admire your progress, most people would look at the faded bodywork and think it's beyond rescue. Amazing what a bit of elbow grease will do

what you mean nicked the plastic arch liners? does the rears have them too?
