Following much thought and advice from you lot, I have now had my car serviced and know who to blame for what has happened!
Instead of maintaining the service history with Autofarm, I decided to go to GT One. First thing that struck me was that I had to book in 3 weeks in advance. Either they were busy or they took a long time to do their work! However, they did agree to use the oil I had purchased, just in case I went to autofarm.
So, with the car loaded to the roof with oil and the wheels I bought from Yoda at the beginning of the summer (I really did want to get the mags restored) , off I drove and finally arrived fairly close to the appointed time, to be greated by Craig. We had a brief chat about the car, he gave it a quick look over, made a few comments and then I was on my way, leaving my pride and joy in deepest Chertsey with a total stranger!
During the next 36 hours, I received a few calls updating me of progress and coming up with ways I could further spend money. Never being shy when it comes to spending money on cars, I gave the go ahead for various minor and pedantic points to be sorted out. Then came the call I both wanted and dreaded................it was ready for collection. Heart in mouth and wallet in pocket, I once more headed for Chertsey.
I arrived to be greated by a gleaming car with its new wheels looking a great improvement. Then it was upstairs to the office where Craig was preparing the bill. Reading notes on the bill, it is clear that they had either given the car a thorough check over, or they had sat around drinking tea thinking up believable things to write! Each point was discussed and then the total was shown. Looking after these babies isn't cheap and but Mr VISA kindly did the business for me. Then the moment of truth ...... loaded up with the old wheels I set off.
After only about a few hundred yards the truth hit me. What had they done to my car. It was so different.
(At this point I am tempted to say, tune in tomorrow for the next installment!).

So, what was different? Well, to start with, the car was a lot quieter. Many noises I had taken for granted had gone. The lsd was quieter, the engine too. Why, I asked myself. Well, the answers were simple. The tappets had been set properly, it had the correct grade of engine oil and the gearbox oil had been changed. The gearbox oil had been low and was a rather nasty black colour. In addition, the brakes felt great after the fluid change.
Other jobs done included a new fuel filter which Craig thought was replacing the original one. I certainly have no record of it being changed. They also fitted new grommets to the spare wheel well and stoneguarded the underneith where they found bare metal.
So, I now have another opinion of my acr and I am pleased to report that the car is as good as I thought it was when I bought it. A few minor issues have come to light but nothing that needs attention until other work is required. For instance, there seems to be a very minor leak on the front input shaft seal which we will sort when the clutch finally needs replacing.
So, I can say that I am very impressed with GT One and will continue using them.[]
