MY03 Onwards Noises from Roof

JCB..

Hello all

I have a query regarding what is described as a 'flapping' noise coming from the roof of a glass screen car.

Has anyone experienced such a phenomenon? (Never even used a spullchecker!)

I have heard of this yes.
Can't remember if there was any solution other than the OPC taking the roof apart and doing something?
It should be under warranty though?...

I've got it (June 03), I commented on it at the service and they said "it's a soft-top, you should expect some noise", which I thought was crap of them. I've since heard that

1) OPC reading have an official fix, involving inserting foam
2) There is a DIY fix to sort out some of the cabling - try a quick search on boxa.net.

I intend to raise the issue again very soon with the OPC.

Yup, it happens on mine also, always between 70-85, and more prevalent in cross-winds, for some reason!

I raised it with my local OPC (Glasgow) and they tightened the roof, but this made no difference.

I then mentioned it to another OPC whom had previously cured the problem with a foam insert in the roof, however the problem seems to have re-occured in the car again. I like Greig am led to believe Reading OPC have also fixed it, but dont know if their fix is still 'working'.

My MY03 and I know others had this. Mine did it most with gentle wind from behind or when passing trucks. My OPC fixed it by inserting some additional foam; mine was only the second they had done earlier in the year. Sounds like they had to experiment a bit with the first one to find out where the noise was coming from. I mentioned to them that there was supposed to be a Porsche fix but I'm not sure if this is true or not. It was done under warrranty.

Hi
My 03 boxster's roof always creaked and squeaked . Went back twice to opc they said they had adjusted the deck and lubricated any parts that needed it. All was well for a few weeks until going over uneven ground, and the groaning and moaning always returned.
Never experienced any noise on my first 97 Boxster.
Just keep taking it back under warranty untill the matter is resolved.
Now sold my 03 boxster. squeaked right up to that point, guess the new owner will have to try to and get it sorted .
Could it be the glass rear window model that only suffers?

Regards Cliff.

No rattle but the glass rear window squeaks. If I touch the glass the squeaking stops. It seems worse after the roof has been down for a few days. Fixing rigid glass within a fabric & something has to give. Any movement between the glass and the plastic surround may cause the squeak.
