Todays Autocar 27/04/04 Issue pages 12&13 full monty on the Brand New Next Generation Boxster. Revised shape and engine spec are just an evolution and unlike the new SLK/Z4 not a revolution.
*****************************************************************************************************************

Upload isn't very clear so PM for your own personal jpeg [8D]

Basic are :-

2.7 & 3.2 get a massive power hike extra 10BHP so this should worry Merc/BMW/Lotus NOT![:D] DSG dual clutch unit as fitted to Audi TT will be an option along with a new 6 speed Tiptronic. Gets new front and rear light units similar to forthcoming 997 along with 997 style new door mirrors, new door handles same as 997's and a slightly wider pop up rear spoiler for greater down force at speeds above 75mph.
Enlarged front cooling ducts for the radiators and larger side ducts for engine cooling.

Roadster will make its debut at the January 2005 Detroit Motor Show the Coupe will debut at Frankfurt Motor Show Sept 2005.

If it's true it's a shame, 10bhp more won't get my money, nor a lot of other people's I'm afraid. This may spell the end for the boxster.

Headlights in spy shots have been more a cross between the Cayenne and Carrera GT in shape (they look good - better than I make it sound!)

Unless Autocar have REAL info, the engine spec is still all speculation. Hope it's more than 10BHP though. I'll be seriously disapointed and taking my money to Ruf if only 10bhp...

(What's this - marketing gome mad "must protect the 911...")

I agree mark about the "must protect the 911" - Porsche have forgotten that it was the Boxster which saved the company. The power increases to the 911 would hopefully be sufficient enough to give plenty room remaining for a decent power increase to the Boxster. I'd like to see 260bhp for the standard boxster , 290 for the S and 370+ for the 997. I don't think these are entirely unrealistic figures given the progress competitors are making.

but...it'll never happen, I suspect 10bhp more for the boxster and 20bhp more for the 997.

The extra 10bhp is to compensate for the pull out door handles [:D][:D]

I think once the SLK350 starts to hit the road Porsche will have to up the power ante, even if there is the risk of encroaching into 997 territory. Then again, maybe the new model is lighter ? = improved bhp/tonne

Seriously doubt it will be lighter. It's almost certainly virtually the same car as the current one. Easy re-skin only I'm afraid.

I would be shocked / surprised if it weighed in any lighter as the norm is for cars to get bigger, fatter, and heavier with age [&o] bit like humans I guess []

Are you sure thats a coupe, looks like a hard top!, if it is,any one know how you get to the top of the engine in a coupe?

Jon,

Can I point you in the direction of the FAQ where it says:

If it says "Non Member" by your name, you need to confirm your Membership Number and Forum Name to Sophia at Club HQ (email forum@porscheclubgb.com ) This should be a one-time fix, and will also allow you access to the member-only areas of the Forum.

Sorry, but spending funds on linking the Forum to the Membership database, probably wouldn't go down to well with the members![;)]

This months Car Magazine is just out and is Porsche-tastic! 997 Carrera and Turbo pics, MY05 Boxster and Boxster Coupe all in disguise and on test but the best pics I've seen to date.

Boxster nose is clearly shown. Smaller headlights and the indicator/fog units in the bumper. Smaller rear lights and subtle detail changes - from the pics it looks less different than the MY 03 update but we'll wait and see.

Very tantalising glimpse of the 997 interior - if they clean the Boxster instruments, steering wheel and dash up in the same way it'll be a real step forwards.

Also, there is a great looking article on the Carrera GT where they spend a week with it driving around Germany.

Will buy it on the way home - should provide adequate avoidance of mowing the lawn material for the weekend....

Car magazine talk about power for the forthcoming S and equivalent coupe at 280bhp;

also Autocar "sources" describe the coupe as being "more sporting than its open-top sibling"

Doesn't that make it a 20bhp power hike [8D]

don't know what to make of the Autocar comment [&o]

Take it as firmer suspension and a taughter chassis (thanks to the roof)

Doubt it will get 280hp though - it will be the cheapest Boxster, and with 280bhp would be close to 997 performance

Andy

Andy if Car magazine are correct with 2.7 @ 250bhp and 3.2 @ 280bhp then Autocar probably meant 10% more power and not as reported 10bhp! Either way one of these two weren't listening at the de-briefing [] Lets just hope that Car magazine have got it right as new car is bound to be a bit more of a porker than out going original []
