N rated tyre availability

My turbo is coming up for it's 12th birthday next March - yikes! I've kept the extended warranty going this far and will keep it going to the bitter end - another 3 years from next March. However, as the current Bridgestones will most likely need replacing before then, I started looking for replacements. Try as I might I can't find anyone with N1 rated RE050A 235/35/19s in stock. The rears, 305/30/19s appear to be around. Then I started looking for other brands that have matching N rated tyres to fit and the only one I could find was (possibly) Michelin N2 and definitely Pirelli P Zero. This is not intended to start yet another debate about the pros and cons of extended warranty/N rated tyres/tyre manufacturer but a general question about what's available. Is, for example, the lack of Bridgestone fronts a temporary or permanent thing? Curiously, the new Bridgestone Potenza Sport is available in those sizes but not N rated?

Edit - a phone call to Bridgestone HQ confirmed that the 235 size has been stopped. Looks like Pirelli or Pirelli for me from now on then, at least until the warranty expires...

I am in exactly the same situation with my (same age) Turbo. I have Michelin Pilot Sports 2 on mine which are N rated and the OPC even replaced one of them recently. DONT PUT PIRELLIS ON! :)

Hi Alan
I would heartily recommend PS2 N2, have had them on a 997 c2s and the current turbo.

I wouldn’t choose Pirelli based on my experience with a Macan and the current Cayenne. Clearly not the same tyre type obviously but when I changed the Macan to Michelin it was like night and day for the better.

Hope you find some.

In my experience the Michelins are also not easy to get hold of N rated, but they are out there, and this is exactly what I have on mine, and seems a popular choice for 997 owners.

Pirellis are fine but need different geo setup. Chris F has a tyre guru up there now. Have a word with his guy about availability. [;)]

Clive

Same problem with Michelin. Plenty of rears, no fronts.

Hi Alan, seems like only yesterday[:)]

These days I try to fit MPS4S; currently on the Touring after I changed from the RaceMaxx, and our latest 25 acquistion came with 4S factory fitted. That said I've never had any problems with P Zero as currently on the 992 and as standard on McL. Clive probably says it means I'm not trying hard enough.[:D]

It was only yesterday, wasn't it...?[:D] Think I'll be stuck with Pirelli but at least I'll get a discount! Clive, could you explain why the geo will need changing?

Hi Alan, I've run into the same problem with the fronts on my 2012 C4GTS and followed the same course as you i.e. phone call to Bridgestone direct. I've spoken with my local OPC and they refuse to fit non N rated tyres, and at the moment it looks like they are refusing to fit any other N rated tyre brand because I have Potenza RE050A's on the rear and they are insisting all four corners are the same brand. The car is under Porsche warranty and although the 111 point check is now waived for warranty extensions it is still a requirement when a new warranty is taken out and it appears that this is where the "all four corners shod with the same brand" is coming from.

So far I've found only three N rated tyres in the right size
P Zero (N2)
Pilot Sport Cup 2 (N0)
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric N0 (unfortunately I can't find a 305/30 R19 N rated tyre available from Goodyear so choosing this tyre would likely create a similar problem in the future when the rears need replacing)

My rear tyres are only recently fitted so I'm very reluctant to change them when they probably have 8-10,000 miles in them.

Anyone have any thoughts on mixing brands between fronts and rears?
Thanks,
Paul

I had the same issue. 2012 4GTS, under warranty. I have 4 Michelin Pilot Sport 2, 235/35 19 front and 305/30 rear. I needed 2 new fronts as they were scrubbed due to tracking being out, fixed at Center Gravity and they advised to change the fronts. The car was due a service anyway in November and after phoning every tyre company in the country the only place I could get them was OPC Reading, who fitted them for about £230 each. I also got £40 back direct from Michelin.
I‘ve found the PS2’s to be fine as an all round tyre, I do track days with them and whilst I’m sure there are better options they do well for me.
