Name that canister

HI gentlemen
Can someone help me out, I`am changing my air box to a induction one but I need to know what the vent pipe does that leads from a canister under the OS rear wing and what the canister is for, cannot find this in the Bentley Manual

I 'think' its for scrubbing of fumes from the engine or something like that. I think its full of charcoal or something like and was probably fitted beuse of emmisions issues. Not sure is all models have them or not but mine does. I'm not sure where the vent pipe goes to though so probably not much help.

Try a search on Pelican.

Cheers

Andy

To optimise the effect (presume you want more hp ?) you might conside re-mapping. As a matter of interest, I used to own a Honda Accord Type R. Rare. 228BHP, 2.2 litres, 90000 rpm. But every aftermarket air inlet lost tested on this motor lost torque, and therefore mid range performance suffered.

Inlets can act as Helmholtz resonators, and having just read how the Carrera 3.2 was designed to have a resonant inlet, unless you re-map the DME, you may lose something.

You will however, gain noise.

FACT. RUF, "tune" the inlet of our cars by drilling 4 X 25mm holes at the bottom of the air box. I think they may know something.

I`am only trying this to see what effect I get with the Induction air filter and at the price I paid for it I could throw it away, or I may get the car chipped wait and see, but thanks for your advise keep them coming

I recently fitted a cone filter. I believe that the pipe you refer to is a breather pipe. (did it fit on to the old air box?)
I had a small cone filter to attach to it on my kit. - I will have a look at the instructions I received and explain in more detail later if you wish.

Thanks Jacob
Thats the one not sure to rig it some how to the cone filter to take the fumes, but any details would be of help

Graham,

The breather pipe cannot be fitted directly to the cone filter. You will need a small filter to attach to the pipe.
I got my full kit from Simon at Essential Styling, I am sure if you contact Him he will be able to sell you just the small filter that you need. I know that these are more generic, rather than car specific - you can buy them for Beetles for about £10!

As a mod by itself, I think you will not gain any HP but plenty of noise. There has been many discussion on Pelican about this.
If it is a start of small Mods (exhaust and chips) you will notice the difference once you have carried out the other Mods, and by then you won't be able to tell where the Hp has come from!

Good luck!
