Nav update

Well you are sure to be right about the pricing. I will have to check with my contact at Navteq to see if Porsche have actually at long last purchased up to date mapping from them. The last time I checked they most certainly had not since 2003.[]

I have the extended navigation module and you know what.. I haven't got a clue what it does...!!
Reading through the blurb it seems more suited to off roading, although I spec'ed it as its able to retrace routes taken..
I use my Navigation quite a lot and thought it would be a useful addition (not the most expensive option either)

The Toll road is included in my mapping, and I've not really had too many issues ...

I too have it and am in the same boat. I could understand the off road bit, if my car was a Cayenne, but on a 997?

I believe that the extended nav is now included in the standard nav set up as a result of the new prices for 2008

My local Porsche Centre no nothing of this proposed upgrade and can provide no info. They have promised to get back to me when they do.
It does appear that from some date in 2006 the mapping was improved hence Gary having M6 toll road. So maybe a further improvement is on the cards. Yippee, but will I spend my money? I will need to check very carefully what's on offer first.

My discs are dated Oct. 06.

I bought the extended navigation as it was marketed as being useful in areas not covered by the existing maps, e.g. eastern europe. Having driven a previous 996 to the German border and then had to switch to a paper map it sounded useful. To my surprise the newer discs now seem to cover all the missing european countries anyway so I wouldn't have bought it if this was known. Other features are compass, steering angle position and retrace of routes but I can't see myself using them much over-and-above the core package.
