Need 996TT performance upgrade - ECU remap??

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded my 996C4 to a 996 Turbo (2004) in the 420bhp guise.

After 6 weeks, I'm still getting used to it but I feel like spending some of the cash I saved [:D]

I've talked to my personal Porsche friend who advices against upgrades and a few ECU tuners who, obviously, say that an upgrade is a good idea.

The car is manual and I've added the OEM short-shift gear lever. Good choice IMO.

Now I'm considering an ECU remap which promised about 50bhp more. The car has factory fitted "twin look" exhaust pipes. I guess this is purely cosmetic and not functional. Am I right?

The remap has been written about in Total 911 and all seems fine and I'll get change from a grand.

Should I do this? Will I notice? What else should I do? What should I do instead?

I'd consider a new exhaust but I don't think I'd want to lower it, add ceramic brakes or change the suspension. I trust the Stuttgart boys build these well enough at the time.

Will an ECU remap "crack my engine"? Will it ruin my insurance?

What about an x50 upgrade (bigger turbos and exhaust)? Who does this and what does it cost?

All advice most welcome.

Thanks to all and I let you know how the upgrade / remap goes if I am advised to proceed.

Cheers

Mike
