Folks - I have an interesting and I hope unusual problem with both of my headlamps.
As you will be aware, the headlamp aim adjustment is done from inside the boot area using a hexagon wrench (Allen key). When you're turning the component with the key, what's actually turning is a cast metal bevel gear (think gear wheel with a 45 degree angle on it) which meshes with a similar bevel gear inside the headlamp.
This second bevel gear is a one-piece plastic moulding which also incorporates an M6 threaded stud. It is this stud which the reflector moves on to change its position and hence alter the aim of the beam.
In fact, there are two of these bevel gear assemblies in each headlamp - one for up and down and one for side to side movement.
On my car, both of the up and down plastic bevel gear / stud mouldings have had their threads partially stripped and the height of the beam can no longer be adjusted. No idea how this happened - probably ham-fistedness at the MOT place at some time or another.
Anyway, I need to either repair (not easy...) or source replacements for these two plastic bevel gear / stud mouldings.
Does anyone have an old headlamp unit I could cannibalise them from or have any ideas as to where I could obtain such a thing at reasonable cost?
All suggestions gratefully considered.
