Need a new wing.

Hello,
I recently put two good size dents in the top of the near side front wing, just in front of the fuel filler flap. This of course was an accident, but could have been avoided. Enough said. A satisfactory repair is unlikley, but apart from that the rust is coming through below the head light.

I've been checking on E-bay with no success, for second hand wings, however have seen some for sale at £200 +. A little pricey, maybe? Replacements from Porsche are £800 +, a none starter as far as I'm concerned.

Is there anyone out there any experience with fibre glass wings or is there no such thing for 911's. I must admit I haven't seen any companies advertising in the Porsche mags that I read.

Any suggestions, please?

Sure you've heard of them but try these guys http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/

I was there a month ago and they seemed to have a few 964s

Ian,

I'd say that £200 wasn't too bad. I remember seeing a Turbo front wing recently on eBay and they wanted £650 for it. I know the wide bodied panels are pretty rare, but even so, that's a big difference.

I've heard that Douglas Valley don't like selling parts off the cars, they seem to want to sell them as complete as possible but there are a few other places, like Porsh-apart, Partssource and Porscheshop are all worth trying.

Fibreglass body panels are reckoned not to be brilliant for a road car and fit & finish are always questionable.

Maybe it's worth gettting a decent bodyshop to sort out the existing wing. Likely to be alot cheaper than a new one - which you'll almost certainly have to get painted anyway. You might be pleasantly surprised with what they can do.

Good luck.

Regards

Dave

Thanks James,
I have heard of these people, but Dave Wilkinson reckons that they don't like selling bits they prefer to sell the whole vehicle. Time will tell, I will give them a call after the festive season. In the mean time I will live with the embarrassment of the dents.

Thanks for the response Dave.
I will try Douglas Valley after Christmas and will keep a look out on E-bay. When I think about the £200, perhaps it's not too bad but I'm a pensioner therefore I need to be cost aware.

I take your point about fibre glass bits not being noted for their fit, it is the last resort, trust me.

I have had a quote to have the rust taken out, but the body shop have not seen the dents, as yet. You could be correct, I may be suprised.

Anyway thanks for the information, I will check all the people mentioned.

I spoke to douglas valley regarding a couple of engine parts and they gave me quotes, so it might be worth dropping a speculative email[:)]

Porsh-apart have one on ebay at the moment but its at £250 and you don`t know what faults you are getting with a old wing that's about 19 years old
I think you will find from any of the breakers they will be in that region on price as well I went through this with my car and decided to buy new with the 10% off from the OPC you need deep pockets when you have one of these cars[]
As Dave said if you can find a decent bodyshop they may be able to sort your old wing out
