Need new rear bumper - facelift opportunity?

For the second time in 12 months my rear bumper has received the attention of some careless dishonest (no details left) driver []. To tip - don't park in Reading train station car park!!

So I am going to have to cough up to get it fixed[][]. So I wondered if the facelift has a different rear bumper and if I should consider doing this.

I'd welcome your opinions.

The facelift does have a different rear but I can't think of any reasons at present why it should not be physically interchangeable other than for aerodynamic reasons:

i.e. The facelift has a slight upcurled lip for increased downforce. It's probable that you cannot/shouldn't fit the rear without changing the front to facelift spec also, as is the case with a GT3 aerokit.

Changing one without the other could affect stabilty at high speeds and I wouldn't recommend it, as in any event, it could void your insurance.

The only change worth considering is to put the (nicer looking imho) wide bodied bumper from the C4S/turbo onto your narrow body.

Attached a picture of how it looks...

However I am told it is a specialist job to 'warm' the bumper and get it to fit properly on a narrow body car..

Yes the revised 'facelift' rear bumper will fit but you will need to replace much of the heat shielding behind it. Also your tailpipes will not fit - the facelift cars have longer one's IIRC to clear the lower bottom edge of the revised PU.

There is also the aerodynamic issue - the facelift cars have much less lift at both ends of the car and altering one without the other could lead to big stability problems at speed.

Essential Styling http://www.essentialstyling.com/ seem to do a lot of conversions from pre- to post-facelift. Haven't used them personally but they may be worth a try.

Thanks to the three of you for your excellent knowledge and advice.....as I'm just about to move 'monies too tight to mention' [] at the moment so I'm going to have to live with it for a bit! But in the meantime I'll speak to essentialstyling and some other specialists to see what's what and what cost.

Incidentally can the GT3 kit be fitted to a C2 Cab? [sorry showing my ignorance of the brand here!]

Kind Regards

Keith

Berrick,
RE GT3 kit fitment.

Although I have owned 911's for over 20 years, I tend to view them as everyday transport, so have little interest or knowledge in them and generally only get excited with other exotica. However I do own a 996 Cab Tip which seems to have had a GT3 kit fitted to it ( if the yellow 996 coupe coming thru the Ring as per today's photos is any guide-. Other than lacking the rear spoiler, my car is identical to the GT£ featured ). To further answer your question, the kit to my car would seem to have been fitted after production, since I noticed yesterday when underneath it, that the paintwork to the bottom of the front air dam has not been painted to a standard that I believe the factory would ever have been happy with.
I hope that this helps.

Yes, but as stated earlier you are advised to fit the front and back at the same time as it upsets the aerodynamics otherwise.
