Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and will soon be a regular! I am currently searching for a C4S, iv had my heart set on one for about 5 years now and have been driving a 99 VW POLO since! The time has finally arrived when im in a position to get one! wooohooo! Im looking at 2006 - 2007 models, as this is within my budget. ( would love to get an 09 but cant afford one ).

Is there anything that i need to be particularly aware of? Any general advice anyone can give me would be much appreciated! My ideal setup, C4S, manual, short shift, sports exhaust, pasm, leather heated sports seats, sports chrono pack, and aerokit cup!

thanks

kj

There is a lovely one at Porsche Sheffield. it is red with tan leather interior which in pictures looks naff but in the flesh it looks really nice. not sure of spec but it definatley has sports seats, nav, sports chrono, side skirts and sport design wheels. i beleive its an 07 or 57 so would imagine it to be in the mid to late 50s. I beleive it has about 15k miles. If you are interested then ask for Kevin as he is the guy who has just sold me an 09 c4s and he is a really decent bloke.

kj good options, definately the core of what you want.

Nice to haves if it comes woth it - park assist (it's ****ing expensive if you reverse into something and the back is longer than you think), if your going to do long distance work regulalry then Cruise Control saves you licence and left foot, Bose stereo isn't very good in absolute terms but much better than the stadard stereo.

A big plus would be the ceramics but only MKIII ie on the later models 07/08/09 - great for road driving but not so great for track days (hard driving on track days can give them heavy wear I have been told).

Most colours are good but wacky ones will hurt your resale, yellow is not popular with other Porsche owners. Good solid colours like Guards Red, Black (normal of Bassalt) and the silvery colours - Seal grey, Artic silver, Meteor grey, GT Silver etc are good for resale

thanks for that, but ive got my heart set on a black one.. ( i actually prefer the standard black over the basalt ) OR the atlas grey.

never thought about the park assist but i can see where it would save you $$$$.., luckily very little long distance driving. What is the cost of replacement ceramics?

Oh and also, what would be the cost of getting the aerokit cup fitted/sprayed if i dont manage to find one with it already fitted?

thanks for the help! :)

If your not long distance then cruise and Bose are less important

aerokit cup is about £3K-£4K fitted from an OPC (I have thought about it) - frankly if you find the perfect car without aerokit for a good price I'd but that. live with it for a while and then if you still really wanted fit the aerokit.

Ceramics are an item priced so you buy them with the car or not at all (they are a £5k option form new, retrofitted to on with steel is £12k, replacement disks are at least £5k but if you don't track it are claimed to last a long time, although some independents have seen 996's with ceramics in for replacement disks) - which is why I stated they are a nice to have - if you have a car with a spec you like and they also happen to have Ceramic's happy days. if not don't fret about it - the standard steel Jobie's are pretty good (there is a lot you can do to improve them if you feel otherwise).

Only a C4S and not a C2S possibly?

well, if i came across the right one i dont think it would bother me. The width of the 4S is very appealing to me in an aggressive way, especially with the 11" rear wheels... they just look crazy!!!

hmmmm 3-4k sounds appealing, iv seen prices vary quite a bit for 2006/2007 models depending on the options etc and i dont want to be waiting 6 months for one with an aerokit to come along if it works out the same cost to fit one afterwards. So thanks for the advice on that, it's opened up my options! :)

The ceramics seem expensive for what im getting the car for. (no tracking) last long time = ????

Oh ye, how important is PASM? Have you driven both kinds? ( with and without )

The Carrera Sport wheels are 305mm (12") and are fitted to my C2S. The best of both worlds!

If you are looking for a 4S (or a 2S for that matter) PASM is a standard fitment so you will not have a choice.
In my opinion PASM in normal mode gives a slightly more compliant ride over poorly surfaced roads without losing anything in handling or control. In sport mode it is very firm, too firm for most roads, and really only suitable for track use.

Could the "S" not be specced with the 20mm lowered sports suspension instead of PASM? Or is my memory playing it's usual tricks?!

I think it can, however, the PASM spec lowers the car (997.1) 10mm anyway.

As an aside, with apologies to the OP, the Gen2 can have both PASM and the lowered/stiffened/LSD sports suspension as opposed the the Gen 1 which was either or.

12"!!!! i thought all the standard rears for the c4s were 11", and the actual model of the wheel ( sport design etc ) was just the style. So the carrera sport on the c4s are standard 12"??

The Carrera Sport Wheels were an upgrade on the 997.1 C2S. I do not know if they were the standard on the C4S or what the standard C4S wheel width was.

The carrera sport wheel is 11.5j on the rear. The offest I think is different to the fitment on the 2s so although the carrera sports dimensions are the same in both 2s and 4s the rear offset on the rear is different.
I think from the tequipment brochure the 2s is ET50 on the 4s and ET67 on the 2s.
There is actually a silver 4s on pistonheads that looks to have carrera sports on the rears with an incorrect offset and a red one appeared some months back. The 2s fitment lies too far in if put on a 4s. Im no expert so please check but thats what it looks like to me.
