need some opinions on possible new purchase

It's not to my taste (too blinged up) but there is no denying that the previous owner has lavished a lot of attention on it to get it like this. The question is ... has he also lavished the same attention on the mechanicals? If so it could be a decent buy, but beware of someone who has spent money on the appearance and ignored the oily bits. For instance, when were the cam and balance belts last changed?

Best of luck

At that price it is worth a punt. On parts alone must be worth that so long as you can do DIY repairs ..have to agree the steering wheel is some thing from the starship enterprise [:D]

That's pretty high money for an auto, the interior devalues it from standard. If the shell is solid and the mechanicals good it might be worth it, lucky you can check the sills internally as those covers could hide any sign of rot from the outside. [8|]

ill carry on looking for an auto

£2K is not far off double the current price of a decent oval-dash lux. With a proper interior, that one should be seriously down-valued.

Autos are less desirable than manual, but are rare. Combine that with the general condition of the cars (they often need a few £ks in bodywork at this age) and a good auto car is a real rarity. As such, if the bodywork is sound and the mechanicals good then it's worth a punt. But, it really needs to be a good car to be worth that money.

With all 944s it's about condition and recent history. A good, honest car is worth spending the extra on, as you'll save £000s in the long run. I'd worry about the side-skirts hiding rotten sills, but check them through the door vents. I'd worry about why anyone would spend money on the interior like that, but they might have spent equal fortunes on maintaining it. All I'm saying is that it's worth less than a car that hasn't been messed with, but might still be a great car if you want an auto. [:)]

i havent found any that sort of price, the reason i was looking for an auto is the wife is american and only drives auto's.
ive rejected this one on the grounds of what is the bling hiding. im not a puritan so modifications arent a concern to me, im not bothered if its got the wrong bits fitted its more a sound vehicle im looking for.... bit like my 924 which is in remarkable condition and very original bar the wheels i think.
your comments regarding the 944 were welcome and avoided me buying a possible basket case but if it was a sound car its bling wouldnt bother me but i would have "made it less loud"

does anyone know of a sound 944 auto even cosmetically challenged going for a affordable (for me) price

wife has decided she wouldnt drive it anyway so ive stopped looking for now but................ that does look very nice[:)]

Yup. miles better than the blinged up one. One snag is that it is in Somerset, but you inevitably have to do some travelling if you are going to find the right car at the right price. Ask me how I know [:D]
