Need to get access to the rear panel to remove a dent

Hi all,

I've got a couple of tiny dents in the drivers side rear panel above the wheel arch. I think I made them with my elbow by putting all of my weight on the panel whilst getting out of the car in our narrow garage [:(] They're not very deep at all and only show up when the light catches them.

I've asked a paintless dent repair guy what he thinks and he said that he could sort them out but would need to drill a small hole in the door close area. I'm not keen on that and would rather have it filled/resprayed at a body shop. Does anyone know if the back of this panel can be easily reached by removing any of the trim? I've had a look but can't see any easy/obvious places.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Gavin

Unless it's way back above the arch, perhaps you could remove the side trim panel:

Gavin,

I presume you have a coupe...

I have a cab and had a dent in a very similar place (if not the same place, can't comment w/o a pic).

Anyhow, as I live in North Staffs, I called upon Cheshire Dent Repairs (http://www.cheshiredentrepairs.co.uk).

He tried accessing the panel via the rear speaker...no joy. Being a cab, the hood mech gets in the way!

But when he jacked the car up and removed the rear wheel (thinking he'd probably have to drill a hole) he found a gromet, which when removed gave him perfect access to the dent.
He completely removed the dent - absolutely perfect!!

Not sure what this hole is for...perhaps Porsche knew that such protruding rear wings would be prone to dings..

Regards, Neil.

Thanks for the replies.

Neil, that sounds ideal - I've attached a picture showing where the dents are, is this in roughly the same place as yours?

Cheers,
Gavin

Hmm, not quite.

Mine was very slightly further back, toward the rear of the car, and marginally further down, closer to the bulge of the wing.

As I said earlier, it should be easier to access the dent on a coupe, and to be honest, although the dent's not in exactly the same place as mine, I reckon they'll get to that w/o too much of a problem.

These dent repair guys can work miracles - I know Cheshire Dent did!
They did say that if they couldn't get to it, they wouldn't charge me (for the visit)...

Let us know how you get on.

Neil.

A quick follow up to this thread...

Neil, you were spot on - the gromet you mentioned was behind the wheel arch cover and provided just enough room to get at the dents [:)]

Anyone needing dents removed in Surrey/SW London should give Martin at www.dentman.co.uk a call, excellent value for money compared to body shop work.

Thanks for the help with this.

Cheers,
Gavin
