anybody know how to set up a simple home network ? I'm close to screaming with setting mine up.
I have a netgear wireless modem router which is working perfectly but I just cannot seem to be able to set up a wirless file/printer sharing network on 2x PC's and a laptop.

can anyone help before I kill myself pleease[:(]

looks like I don't have permission to use my inbox ? maybe I need to be a member . I sent you a PM not sure if you received it ?

Assuming you are running Windows XP just run the Network Setup Wizard on each machine, default the network name (to MSHOME) and, if you have any third party firewall installed make sure you set your local network to "trusted". It's usually the firewall that's the killer.

Once you reboot after the Network Setup Wizard make sure you set the folders you want to share as "Shared". All printers will default to shared, as will the Shared Documents folder. Right click the folder and select "Sharing". If you have a LAN-connectable printer it's best to connect it to the router direct rather than to a PC. If only a USB connected printer you have no choice I'm afraid.

The Netgear router will assign IP addresses in the 192.168.0.xx range and you don't need multiple IPs from your ISP.

Dave
