Hi

I'm looking at a boxster at Autobahn and they have a nice 2003 3.2S and for a few pounds a month more I can have a new model 2.7(import) , which do you think is better?

Also how much will the fact the model is an import effect the resale?

One last question has any one brought from Autobahn an are they any good?

Thanks

I'd give imports a wide birth.

I had import Boxster S a few years ago, and although it was a good idea at the time, it was
not so good when i had the pants ripped off me come trade in time !!!
I cherished the car like a baby aswell !!

I certianly lost more than i gained.

The import would need to be at least £5k cheaper than UK price to even be considerd imho.

I'm sure the S will be every bit as quick as your carrera, and then some, and on track it would
be in a different league.

Autobahn seem to have quite a good reputation from what i have heard.

Had the same dilema. If you can afford a new 987 2.7 go for it - its a higher power car than the original 986 and is absolutely gorgeous to drive. I get mine in a month!

Whilst I think the new Boxster looks great, I would have used 3.2 if for no other reason than it will have done most of it's depreciating.

As long as the car is UK specification it matters not one bit how it arrived in the UK.

And before anyone flames source was Customer Services Porcshe Cars Reading.

The import is only of any benefit if you are making the substantial savings possible. If its as I suspect UK list or close then its not worth the bother as there will be plenty of new UK cars being sold in next few months by unlucky speculators..... See the ads appearing now and read between the lies and a good deal can be had :ROFLMAO:

As Andy has said a used 3.2 would have done a lot of its depreciating but if you are buying with your heart, the new 2.7 would be a better car. It will be improved in every area and not be far off the pace of the facelift 3.2 - also it will be a generation or 2 ahead in terms of handling and poise compared to your Carrera. You can off course now get a 6 speed box on the 2.7 which closes the spec gap between the 2 even further.

I would take the new 2.7 and it will be considerably quicker than a Carrera 3.2!

With a reasonably skilled driver behind the wheel of both cars I very much doubt that.

If neither of them can drive, of course the electronic safety net of the modern car will allow quicker progress, without the requiring the same level of skill. However, I promise faithfully to let anyone driving a new Boxster (2.7 or 3.2) past me on track this year if I even remotely suspect I'm holding them up.

Andy - I have no doubt the Club Sport will hold its own!
My experience of well driven Boxsters on the track suggests that they are pretty formidable.
Cheers

Agreed - I used to go past 996 Turbo's in my Boxster S, but it was just too easy to drive so I got the CS for greater fun.
So far, on the tracks I have had both cars round, the CS has been slightly quicker, but lots more fun.

Anyway this thread seems to have drifted. I stand by what I said about depreciation, but if that's not a priority, would strongly suggest a back to back test drive of 2.7 987 vs 3.2 986 to see which is the nicest to drive.
