New 2004 Boxster S owner - exhaust help

I love my new car, low mileage 2004 986 - my first entrance in owning a Porsche but it has been fitted with a stainless steel sports type exhaust, cool at low speeds etc. but with a relentless drone at speeds over 60 which makes phone calls or listening to a radio impossible. Believe I require a replacement back box to get back to spec style motoring? A new Porsche dealer box is very expensive ! What do the experts recommend? I would like a stainless steel replacement, but worried I end up buying another sports type exhaust? Thank you in advance

Buy one of a crashed car? Parts on eBay or Douglas Valley Breakers

i has the same situation with a Lotus Elise and reverted to the standard exhaust

Thanks for the prompt reply, appreciated. Has anyone used a Dansk stainless steel back box, they have come up in conversation but I have no experience of them?

Peter,

Sorry I can't offer any first-hand advice on this but if you run a Search for Dansk exhaust on the forum there are some hits which might be useful, although many appear to be for the 996 rather than your 986.

However I note that someone on BoXa.net bought a Dansk rear exhaust and found it too loud for his liking, so beware. As Richard has said, a used original unit would be a safer alternative but they're very likely to be from high mileage cars.

Unfortunately it's impossible to "try before you buy" and your best hope is to locate someone local to you with your preferred set-up. Good luck..!

Jeff

I bought a used original for £100 off Ebay. Just check carefully around the big central seam for rust, that's whet kills them.
