New 3.2

Hello all. Just changed my '82 SC for an '88 3.2 Coupe. Will post a few pictures when I've had a chance to re-size them.

First impessions are that the car is more together than my SC, feels more planted and composed, and G50 box certainly easier than the 915, if not quite as characterful. The engine doesn't feel quite as responsive, but the car has been shunted in and out of a garage for four months and little else so I've added some Optimax and I'm trying to stretch its legs whenever the opportunity presents itself.

One thing I am enjoying is having a front screen demister that actually has a good stab at clearing the morning dew!

The 3.2 forum seems to be a pretty busy place, so I'm looking forward to chipping in as and where...

All the best

Hi Martin. Welcome to the 3.2 forum.
I'd like to see some pictures of your late model 3.2 - it looks black from your avatar or is it Marine blue?

Interesting to hear that you think it is not as responsive as your SC. I followed an SC cabrio on a recent event and the pace hotted up a bit. I thought that the SC mid-range (between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm) appeared a little better than my own 3.2 coupe.

Thanks Brian. I will sort the pictures soon. The car is black, not blue.

Your comment about the mid-range is interesting. The SC used to begin to come on song at about 2900 revs from which point it pulled really strongly. This doesn't seem to happen on my 3.2 until about 3500.

To really move, a 3.2 needs 4,000rpm on the dial and it will continue to pull hard to redline. It doesn't come on cam until 3600rpm IMHO. When you are caught below this in 3rd/4th/5th the 3.2 feels slow (comparatively). While a 3.2 should be definitively faster than an SC in all like-for-like situations, the power-to-weight numbers are sufficiently close that a 3.2 driver caught in the wrong gear or under 3600rpm may get embarrassed.

Good one Martin,
Nice looking Porka,
Are you into tinkering with the odd spanner Martin?
I am about to take delivery of a new digital multimeter which interfaces with a laptop. This will enable me to patch into the ignition system of the 3.2 and watch what the DME does.
From this, I'll be able to study things like firing pulses to the injectors, via a bar graph.
Once I've had a go at this I'll post a result.[;)]

Well Peter, I'm a strictly 'one spanner' tinkerer but I'm willing to give most things a go, given a bit of instruction. I'll be interested to see what sort of results you get.

Martin
