To satisfy my curiosity I recently contacted Porsche for prices on NEW Speedlines; why because I have seen posts along the lines that you can no longer get these items NEW? However.............

That's very odd because in 2006 my local OPC looked at the on-line system with Porsche AG and there were no Rear sets stocked. As no-one is making them, where did they come from? [8|]

.....still, makes my two sets more valuable [:)]

Tim

My inquiry (not purchase!) was made via Paragon parts. The wheels are presently listed on the OPC system and stocked in Germany. Colour options would need to be established for compatibility, obviously, but other than that...they are in stock and available for purchase.

So does that mean the stories about none availability through the OPC route are incorrect?

My original Speedlines have the "polished" centres, not painted - perhaps when I enquired the Parts Manager only punched in the serial number for the polished alloys, not all Speedlines, and that's why I got my negative answer at the time? I'll have to look to see if the part numbers are different.........

(..........and who's Tim?)

PS (I remember trying to buy your car back in 05 - but it was only on sale for about a day....[8|])

Mike! had too many forums open and got carried away. Probably called Tim, Mike! [:D]

Hmm, I guess the polished v Matt finish could be the answer? I didn't think of that possibility. Would be interesting to know if that was it though.

You said you had two pairs! All polished? I have been considering another set so I can get some suitable tyres for 'other uses'; something more grippy and not necessarily 100% road legal. My original rims are in v. good condition having been refurbed before, but they have lost the 'Speedline for Porsche' etching. Reading are going to re-do these for me shortly.

2005 you say....that would have been when Bill Groombridge purchased it (22/10). He owned the car till I purchased it in Sept last year. Apparently he had a newer Porsche and never really got to grips with Minty; too quirky apparently?

Interesting thread, particulaly as I currently have a set for sale on pistonheads for £1200, with original invoice for £4445.40 + vat before discount back in 1995.
Anyone fancy taking them off my hands? I see a set in the club mag still havn't sold for £3.5k yet!

Trouble is, your set need a full refurb and this will cost at least £500 per wheel for a proper job - making them a £3.2k set...

Where do you go to spend £500 per wheel for a refurb, Buggati? Hand polished by Jarvenese virgins?
I have had quotes from three of the most reputable wheel specialists in Britain, and the dearest ( pristine) was £180 per wheel using Porsche spec paint on the centers.
£1980 sounds cheap next to the set that are on Ebay.com at $9650
Besides, only the rims need the laquar removing, a light polish and the bolts re-plating.
A good Diyer could get it done for £100.

Try Speedline - they make them and charge accordingly! If you think you can get such a good deal on refurbishing
them, why don't you prove it by getting them done and readvertise them? Several Rennlister bought brand new sets from Sunset Porsche in Oregon last year for less than $5k - the guy on eBay is taking the Michael at $10k!

Trouble is that people know that these are expensive high maintenance wheels and like me, most people would look at them and think they need a lot more than a light refurbish. The bolts look like they need replacing for a start (I believe the nut and bolts are £5 each - that's £600 alone!)

Anyway, good luck with the sale.

You pay your money and take your choice as far as price / condition go.
I reasoned it would be easier to sell a set in reasonable condition (ie no scraped rims, light cosmetic oxidisation ) with tyres for £1200, than £2,000+ done. (But to a standard good enough?)
By the way, there are 40 bolts per wheel = 160 x £5 = £800, if you can get hold of them, although mine do not need them as you can shine the bolt heads up to clean metal with a rub of your finger. (more money saved, sure your not keen?)
Problem is I am a bit too honest and took the very worst part of the very worst wheel to make people aware they arn't mint, as apposed to taking pictures of lovely shiney parts to tempt poor gullible fools into parting with their money and posting them on, and telling them its a tough world when they moan about condition.
As for selling them, guess what, I have.

Good stuff - I'm glad you've sold them.

P.S. I know they have 40 bolts - it was my maths letting me down![;)]

Very interested in the quote by the way - having been told about £340+vat per wheel by one of the most respected; £260+vat charged by the last crew I used; and told by most specialist that they won't touch them. Where is Pristine? Dave who owns Pristine Wheels in Woburn/MK said "no thanks"....

Congrats on selling them by the way - I paid similar money for my spare set in similar nick.

Sorry, it was a few months ago i ran round for wheel quotes, it may not be the Woburn pristine.
I remember the place was near Siverstone though, could it be Premier Wheels?
