New 944S2 Owner - First minor problem

Guest

Hi to you all, I recently bought a 1990 944S2 to enjoy a fun car at the weekend. Everything on the car works perfectly, or did, until the indicator lights stopped working recently.

The winkers work fine with only the ignition on. However, once the engine is running, the relay no longer 'ticks' and the indicator lights remain 'on' when used, until they are cancelled.

I first thought that the relay was at fault, so I cleaned the contacts and gave it a thump or two, but as everything works fine when the engine is not running, am I no longer too sure.

Could anyone please help? As you can probably guess, I am not mechanically skilled, but I know a good car design when I see one!

Thanks.

Adrian.

Interesting that the relay only works when the engine is running [&:] You are right that when the relay fails the lights just illuminate but don't flash. Both my cars have needed new relays for the same reason (though I never tested with the engine off). If you don't want to risk the £15-20 on a new relay then maybe you could try a known good relay from a local 944 owner, could be a good reaosn to attend your local Region.

I had the same problem and as paul suggested I changed the relay and all was fixed. I was reccommended Exeter OPC on 01392 822800 and mention the forum and If my memory still works I'm sure it was under a tenner, so well worth a go.
