new 968 cs

New member
I collect my 968 CS on Friday: she's speed yellow with the "war paint": matching alloys & the CS script down the side.

There is no sunroof & the seats are comfort model as fitted to the 968 Sport: the specification suits me perfectly.

Already on the drive I have a Smart Brabus Roadster-Coupe but if the plan to move closer to work happens then I may just stick to having the 968.

I'm looking forward to meeting my region 5 (N/W) fellow members soon & fellow 968 owners from further afield in the future.

Welcome to 968 ownership - you won't regret it! I'm surprised a CS has comfort seats - I had those in my coupe and now have sports seats in my cabriolet. The Sports has much higher bolsters, gives much more lateral support than the comfort seat, so to me is more an alternative to the buckets - but hey, taste is a personal thing! The comfort seats were, indeed, comfortable - as are the Sports.

If you haven't already found the "other" forum, I suggest you take a look at porsche968uk.co.uk, which is much more active than the 968 forum on here. Our new RS Ken Coad is trying to change that, but it's a slow process - especially as Ken is currently laid up.

Great to be here! When I knew for certain that it was a 968 that I wanted I filled in the application for 968uk (they ask for a small fee & you get some stickers)...& then nothing: six weeks later no reply. I can only imagine it's because I put on the form that I did not yet own a 968 (I was joining to ask buying advice!) that I was not welcome.

Something has gone pear shaped there - and as the owner of 968uk is Mr968 on here (Stu) I'm sure he will rectify whatever the problem was.

Shame as I could have done with some help.... however this girl was the third 968 I looked at so I learnt what to look for.
The first was the black Sport for sale in Yorkshire which claimed to be a "heritage" car (to what you may ask...) the second was a yellow Sport in Buckinghamshire with an LSD; mechanically very sound but needing all new skirt & bumper seals & some tlc regarding chips & blemishes; decent enough seller but not tidy enough for me.

Hello there and welcome, I have the same colour scheme as yourself - not particularly subtle !!
As said already you really need to get your 968uk membership sorted out, very friendly bunch and tons of tech info on the site.

PS - If you fancy a pair of nice yellow backed leather bucket seats - narrow fit SPGs not originals - I may have a pair for sale soon.

Seawolf, I suspect I know what happened. Stu asks for a VIN number as part of the application - it keeps trawler bot's and spider bots away from the forum! If you did not enter a VIN (it does not have to be a 968 VIN, just a valid one!) then I'd guess your application would fail. Anyway, I've PM's Stu on 968UK and pointed him to this thread, so hopefully we'll soon see you over there - as said above, it's well worthwhile! Your other option is to go to the K300 website, get the phone number and call them - either Stu or his wife Vicki will answer.

Hi seawolf and welcome to the club, I'm also an R5 member so hopefully meet up sometime, meets are at the Deanwater near Wilmslow on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

Thanks for the welcomes gents: should have my CS in 24 hours; exciting times!!

Stuart, I replied but it said your inbox is full? In answer to your question: the same as the one I use here (I think).

Picked her up this afternoon, first impressions: at 70 in 6th on the motorway home it felt like I could have been in a brand new 2.0 Golf so imperious was the ride & cruising ability: far from "hardcore".

A quick taster on the back roads revealed a longer than anticipated gear throw & a delightful chassis.

Flicking through the substantial folder of bills has been a real eye opener this evening; here's hoping the
lions share of spending has already been done!

Question (& remember for the past three years I've been changing gear with my fingertips only!) is selecting reverse a bugger only to begin with; does it get easier?

It's a more chunky shift than more modern cars, but you shouldn't be having difficulty selecting a gear. If it's notchy or obstructive, your rear gear linkage (transaxle side) may be due a refresh. Too much lever slop side to side means the front linkage is worn.

One day later & it's getting easier; a friend was saying today how his 1 series BMW has the same gear layout & that he too found reverse (in the same location) difficult at first: it just takes time to get used to it.

Amazing drive home from the country pub this evening!!

Had first chance to get out the polish today:

What a good way to spend a day. Your car looks excellent.

I also own a 968 - a Sport in Polar Silver.

You may find the Porsche Club of America site interesting. A Google search for 968register.org should get you there. They have a lot of info about the cars via old magazine articles and advertising brochures from Porsche at the time.

Porsche 968 - Limited Edition Extra by Brookland Books which I purchased via Amazon has lots of road tests from magazines which were printed when the cars were in production.

Cameron thank you for your kind words.

I have the very same book, I bought it a month ago & it's a fine read.

I hope to see your Sport at some point.
