Good evening all

Just sold a 996 Targa and bought a 987 Boxster S this after noon

First impressions are good, just a blast to Weymouth and back this evening

I have some questions though...

1) does the driver side fan run fairly regularly?

2) does anyone get a slight wind noise just behind your right ear when driving?

3) I've got either rear tyre noise or fan, noise is this normal?

4) CD-R 24 with Bose, iPhone is a problem right? I've got the CD changer if that helps? What are my options?

5) Drivers side canvas roof bottom ends outside the plastic when closing, any fix for this over and above stopping half way and helping it position itself properly?

im sure I will have many more!

1) Er, no (actually not sure what you mean)
2) Odd noise in my left ear when driving but only when Mrs C is in the car
3) Nope, don't think so
4) I carefully ripped it all out and replaced with a dual din Pioneer Apple CarPlay unit. This:

5) Mine doesn't do this. Post a picture?

Good choice though!

1. Yes fan on drivers side is often running in my experience
2. Not really notice a specific noise
3. Ditto
4. Didnt have bose or iphone so cant comment
5. Very common - there is a piece of elastic strap that pulls the roof in whilst closing that you can tighten up by moving the fixing point into teh next slot in the elastic band. If that is not enough then you can just replace the elastic band/fixing strap. If you do a search on here you will find photos of where to find it

Costellos, I too am new to the 987 Boxster (in fact to any Boxster) and like you I seem to hear noises everywhere! (mainly your items 2 & 3) I have had the car checked over and have come to the conclusion that sitting on top of the engine will mean I'm going to hear noises that I'm not used to.

(notechmike - thanks for answering a question I had before I had the chance to ask it! :)) )

I have only been a Porsche/Boxster owner for less than 2 years and have had a 987 and the current 981.

"Oh - and before you ask yes it is normal that the front suspension judders when reversing on full lock"

Only noticed this on my 987 on cold days when there was no flex in the tyres.
Apparently its due the the severe suspension geometry on the large tyres, the Ackerman principle.
My 981 does it all the time when reversing on full lock regardless, nothing to worry about.
My son has a 981 Cayman, his did it the same until he had a slight accident requiring a £10,000 repair bill which I suspect included 4 wheel laser alignment, now he says it does not do it at all.

Rubber burning smell from rear end - normal apparently. My 987 had it and the 981 does it.

Right ear wind noise - due to the mesh wind deflector, much better if you get a glass/perspex deflector, looking to replace my mesh one.

I notice much more tyre noise from the rear on my 981 than the 987.

Turn the petrol cap until it clicks or petrol cap rubber seal may be cracked. Cheap to replace from Design911.

Hi All,

Also have a 987.1 S model - I understand that the S models have an extra cooling fan, (extra when compared to the non-S models). This extra fan is located in the engine bay and activates when the temperature in the engine bay exceeds a particular trigger point. This fan exhausts any hot air out of the engine bay through the grill insert just behind the driver's door. (The grill insert on the passenger side is the air intake for the engine). When this extra fan is running, I certainly notice it start and stop and might be what is being reported in the first post on here??
