Hi all,

I used to post on here last year when I had a 996 Carrera 4. I exchanged it for a Cayman S at the beginning of the year but last week changed back to a 996! The Cayman was absolutely fantastic but lacked something, I think it was almost too perfect [&:]

So, I'm now back in a 996, this time it's a 2002 GT2 comfort spec basalt black with black leather. The thing the Cayman lacked the GT2 has in abundance, I've only covered a few hundred miles but I already love it.

Hopefully should be taking it to a few events, the first being the ace cafe this month.

Cheers all,
Gavin

Thanks [:)]

Here's one picture, not great but I'll take some decent ones and post those soon.

Beautiful!! Do you have the same problem as me fitting it into the garage? Or more like getting in and out of the car in the Garage[:D]

Very much so, it just about fits and allows me to get in and out - in that picture you can see my strip of left over bedroom carpet on the wall to protect the door [8D]

I have the carpet on the wall as well. I think every time i get in/out what if my back goes out again (I'm only 37) will anyone find me how long will i be there for? But ...for the pleasure on driving a 996 I'll take the chance!

Welcome back Gavin. Looks the business. How are you coping with 462bhp, 2WD, and no traction control? Must be an exciting drive, and hugely different from the Cayman.

Thanks Richard.

It's certainly a handful to drive and needs your full attention pretty much all the time. The acceleration is absolutely amazing, it's often described as brutal, relentless etc in reviews and that's pretty accurate. The main problem is you're at very serious speeds before you know it and it just wants to keep going. Having said that it is surprisingly easy to drive at normal speeds and through town. I don't find the ride too harsh, I had 19inch wheels and no PASM on my Cayman so got used to a bumpy ride!

As for the lack of PSM/traction, I've not really noticed yet as the grip seems to be endless and I've only driven it hard (and only will) in the dry. I've had a bit of sideways movement when the turbos kick in whilst at wide open throttle but that's easily controlled providing you're on a decent road surface.

It's a completely different drive to anything I've had before - very rewarding when you get it right but scary at times, driving perfection [:D]

A friend of mine has one, and in the wet it's a real handful. He had a big moment, swapping ends on the slip road to onto a motorway. Fortunately he didn't reach the motorway itself - just backwards onto the verge. The wide rear tyres don't help with aquaplaning!

[:D] It requires quite a complex twist action to get out of the car, especially if I've parked too far right. My wife never goes in the garage so if my back goes during this twist it's just me and the GT2 until the end [:(]

Attached another picture showing the car in the garage. I don't think there's a better view of a modern 911 than the rear of a widebodied 996 [8D]
