New 997 Turbo Owner

Its been some time since I posted - today I have entered into a deal to part ex my 996 C4S which is immaculate (38K) and I have bought a 997 turbo tiptronic in basalt black with a few extras. 28k on the clock, does anyone have any words of wisdom???

My words of wisdom is they can change how they handle considerably according to the geometry setup.
The best money I ever spent on the Turbo was a geo check at centre gravity.

Turns the car from chalk to cheese - although granted you may have one that's already been done

Other than that, get used to it in a straight line firstly!!
 
Yep, thanks for the welcome. Any advice on tyre pressures - the factory pressures for my C4S were dyer. I will try the same as I ahve been using however I've gone to 19" wheels so all may change. How much is the geo set up at Centre Of Gravity? Is this great;y different to wheel alignment checks??? I'm guessing its the angle of how the wheel sits as opposed to alignment right???
 
I think we all tend to use factory tyre pressures.

A geo set up at CG is a lot more than an alignment check. Front and rear cambers will be set to optimise the handling of the car - and these are not factory! Also all of the suspension components will be checked for wear. The car is driven before and after and most are very impressed with the transformation. It comes in around £300 inc vat and, IMHO, probably the best money I have ever spent on the car. Enjoy the turbo - it's very addictive.[:)]
 
Factory tyre pressures are fine to start with. Take a look at our technical section for further info. Nitrogen is preferable to air, being more stable and maintains pressure for longer.
I recommend fitting mesh to the front PU to prevent radiator damage (but check with your PC about any warranty implications beforehand) and whilst the PU is off clean out the rads. - it's surprising how much debris collects at the back, check for corrosion and spray rads. with inhibitor. It's all in the technical section.

Chassis alignment means the car runs square with all 4 wheels pointing in the same direction. I fully concur with what tscaptain has said.

Otherwise, just enjoy the drive. Triptronic has a learning phase that will adapt to your driving style. You have one gear less than the manual box, but huge engine torque largely overcomes the ratio gap.

All the advice above is good and relevant. A trip to Center Gravity is a must, after about 1k miles, so you can tell Chris what you like and don't like and how you want the car to feel. He will then sort it for you and the result is amazing. My last visit was late summer 2014 and cost £320 +VAT - great value - it got rid of most of the tramlining that Lancerlot had got with his "edgy" setup (too edgy for an old, disabled bloke like me [:)]).

But - most of all - go out and enjoy what is an amazing car with stunning performance.

If you are quick, he's doing free 'checks' in January.. so you can see for yourself.

I previously had a tiptronic 996 Turbo and felt the box really suited the engine - the amount of torque easily over came the one less gear.
So much so that when I moved to 997 Turbo is was a hard choice whether to go manual or tip - I seem to remember the tip is quicker to 60 than the manual too [:)]

Centre of gravity is a must.......just fabulous transformation.

Other than that - drive it like you stole it and enjoy!
