NEW ADDITIONAL CLUB NIGHTS

Commencing in April there will be two new R7 Club Nights in addition to the existing one at Woodlands Hotel, near Leeds. These will be at venues which should be convenient for members in the south and north of the region. A search is underway for a suitable venue in the east of the region and suggestions will be welcome. An announcement will be made as soon as a venue has been found.
There are over 1,000 members in R7 and members of the recently formed CoG (Coordinators Group) are keen to ensure that all can enjoy full benefits of membership.

Club Nights are social gatherings for members to meet with others and I propose that there will be a brief discussion about future events, who is going and where people might meet up. Many great friendships have been made at club nights and partners and spouses are very welcome; chat is not all about cars!
I recommend that anyone attending a club night for the first time makes themselves know as a ‘newbie’ so that they can be welcomed and introduced to others.
Initially I and other CoG members will lead the club nights but it is hoped that local members will take over, with support from the CoG In due course.
We hope the additional venues meet with members approval and they will be popular, feedback will be welcome.

Club Nights commence ’officially’ at 8.00pm.
The Woodlands is very well established and will continue as before.
With effect from April Club Nights will be:

1st Wednesday of each month except May when it is hosted by Porsche Leeds
Woodlands Hotel (2.6 miles south of Porsche Centre Leeds on A62)
79 Gelderd Road?????
Gildersome LS27 7LY
There is ample car parking. We usually meet in the room opposite Reception or in the bar)

2nd Wednesday of each month commencing 10 April
The Red Lion Hotel (On A57 2.3 miles east of M1 junction 31)
?????Sheffield Road
?????Todwick
?????Sheffield S26 1DJ
There is ample car parking and I suggest that we use the uppermost car park. We will have use of a room to the right hand side of the bar

3rd Wednesday of each month commencing 17th April
The Smiths Arms (B6161 Harrogate - Otley, not far from RHS Harlow Carr)
Beckwithshaw near Harrogate
The pub which has a large car park is in the centre of the village. An area to the right of the bar is where we will meet, however, a section of restaurant is available to us if required.

That’s great Ron. There has been quite a lot of interest in the Red Lion club night before my post today and indications are that it will be popular. I look forward to seeing you on 10 April.

Regards

Roger

For the East can i suggest Tickton Grange as it is central to the county it has had a good refurb a large car park and the owner is a Porsche enthusiast

Thank you for the excellent suggestion David, I will pay them a visit.

Hi Peter,

I agree with David re Tickton Grange, but if that wasn't available can I suggest Cave Castle Hotel in South Cave as a back up venue. Very nice place with easy access from A63.

cheers

Phil

What about a venue further north this location is still one hour's drive for me.

Has any thought been given to a retired members section who could meet at various venues during the week daytime?

Our main access west is the A64 which is gridlocked at weekends - we don't venture out to join the car park back to the West Riding.

Thank you Phil, I had considered Cave Castle as a starting point for the Wolds Wander had the Star Inn been unable to accommodate us, it is however at the Southern extremity of our area for regular meetings.

The Pipe and Glass Inn at South Dalton looks interesting as well, it is very useful to receive suggestions and much appreciated. A lot of the venues we have looked at would make nice drive out locations when the evenings are brighter and we have an idea of how many active members are in the East Ridings.

Pete

Hi John

Thank you for your message. Do you have any particular location in mind for a club night? I’m sure Peter Rolt will give consideration to all suggestions. Given the large size of the area it’s difficult to cater for everyone’s needs and we really have to hold Club Nights in areas convenient for the majority of members as I’m sure you appreciate.

Your suggestion of meets during the week at various locations is in my opinion an excellent one. i suggest that anyone should be welcome and not just us retired people. It is something that doesn’t really need approval from the CoG because essentially it will be a case of members choosing to meet up for lunch. Would you like to suggest a venue for a first monthly gathering, to start in April I suggest? I’ll happily create a new post on this forum and publicise it. Would that be ok with you? Feel free to make any suggestions.

Regards

Roger

Thank you John, we are quite new to the region and are struggling to find motoring enthusiasts in the East Riding, there are a few classic and historic events but less for more modern sports cars, or so it would seem.

We have been on drives with R4 and the North Humberside motor club. Despite seeing a number of Porsches locally, we have not met many club members. Hopefully a regular meeting in this area will generate interest.

Val and I no longer work so your suggestion of a retired members section would be attractive. Since starting our quest to find a meeting venue we have looked in the East Riding from South Cave to Hackness, our main search has obviously been close to home as our local knowledge is restricted.

If the monthly meeting proves popular suggestions for other venues for meetings and drives would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a map of the three meeting locations and the venues we have been shortlisting for further investigation, the two that are starred being Tickton Grange and Pipe and Glass Inn.

Hi Roger, Peter,

Living where I do, I can recommend Tickton Grange, and Cave Castle hotel as being suitable for meet ups, with good car parking etc. There is also the Triton Inn @ Brantingham which R4 & R7 have both met up @ I know this as I organised it! Depends what sort of venue you are looking for? Pub meet or food venue? Some of the other venues on your Google search might work, as always car parking is the important issue

Peter we met @ R7 RAF Linton day, and R4 Humber Bridge meet, so you can put a face to the name😀 I am semi retired now so if you wanted to meet up to recce some venues ? I would up for that

kind regards Steve Todd

Any thoughts about the new club night at The Smiths Arms, Beckwithshaw, commencing 17 April.

Whilst there have been favourable comments about the new South Yorkshire club night, I haven’t seen or heard any comments about the additional club night to be held at The Smiths Arms. It would be good to see the thoughts of members who might attend.

Thank you Steve. Please forgive me I am hopeless with names, something that has plagued me all my life and it can be very embarrassing. Quite often I remember cars, or dogs names, rather than their owners [:)]

I had been hoping to have some news but sadly am still looking for a venue. My main aim is to find a safe location a little further North in the region, somewhere in-between the latitudes of Beverley and Flamborough, striking a balance is proving tricky but I am hopefully up to the challenge.

I will send you a private message about having a recce.

We will attend at The Smiths Arms as its close and easy to get to from where we live in York

NEW ADDITIONAL CLUB NIGHT - EAST RIDING

I’m delighted to report that Peter Rolt has done some great work and found an ideal venue for a new additional club night in the east of the region. It will be held on the 4th Wednesday of each month starting on 28th April at:

Beverley & East Riding Golf Club

Anti Mill

Westwood

Beverley

East Yorkshire

HU17 8RG

Please see the new post ADDITIONAL CLUB NIGHT, EAST RIDING for details.

From April, R7 will have a Club Night in the north, south, east and west of the region and we hope these will be well supported by members.

Roger

WE have not been to any club nights before

The Smiths Arms works well for us as we will shortly be moving to Wetherby

Looking forward to meeting up
