New AFM = New Car!!!

Hi guys I have just changed the AFM on my car for a second hand unit I got off of fleabay for the princely sum of £29.99!!!! Took it out for a test drive up the A1 and I have to admit the car has been transformed. The power delivery is now so much more smooth and quite frankly it is going like a train [:)][:)][:)][:)] The AFRs are now also rock soild and on the better i.e. richer side. Not bad for a £29.99 fleabay gamble but the guy I bought it from did say it was used by a specialist garage for testing on cars.

I am still however left with my intermittent idling problem. The car will almost do it order now when it is hot and will idle at around 1100 or 1200 RPM. My initial thoughts are for the throttle position switch. Anyone concur of have a different idea? It almost like when hot the car is not switching from map to the idle control valve. I will be able to do some testing on it on Fri or at the weekend. I have done a quick check for one at all the usual suspects and I can't believe the price they want for this item. Does anyone have a good one lying around at all?

Rob,
good to hear the news.

I cannot help with a tps, but for what its worth you may try replacing the Idle stabilisation valve.
They can be changed without removing the inlet manifold, but its tricky.
Try Clark's Garage for an ISV test / diagnostic routine.

Your symptoms match mine before i replaced the isv.

good luck

TPS is definitely worth trying - can be a bit awkward to get it just right. I would test / adjust it when it's hot (if that's when the problem is) With the engine off you should be able to hear the TPS click off just as the throttle closes completely. Also worth checking the throttle flap isn't sticking slightly open.

Wow! Does he have any more of them for sale? [:D]

I was toying with the idea of repairing mine from the YouTube vid and topic earlier this week on the forum ... I may wuss out and buy a new one!!

Rob,

What a cracking deal, I changed mine in May with a new unit from Andy at Promax, I was really chuffed with the price of £262.67 as Porsche quoted £792.54!!

And dosen't it make a difference.

Hope you sought out the idling.

Cheers

Andy

OK sitrep on the idling fault as of this afternoon. Had the car in my workshop for some testing this afternoon and I can confirm the TPS is shot. Incidentally I have devised a dead easy way of testing this. I will post it as a technical article when I fit the new one if anyone thinks it might be worthwhile. So that leaves me needing a new TPS. I have researched buying one and quite frankly I think the prices quoted for what it is are ridiculous. To that end does anyone have one going spare/cheap that they may be able to let me have? Come on you know you want to it's almost crimbo and we all need all the pennies we can get [:D]

I might have one somewhere Rob - will have a look next time I'm in the garage. I think it still has some life left.

I bought a re-built throttle body from Simon Peckham that came with a new TPS
