new badge fixing

Was cleaning my C2 before Brands, and a thread of my polishing cloth got caught under the 'c' of the carrera scipt on the engine lid and broke part of it off! Anyway, did a quick fix, and at Brands I bought a new badge, and I am now ready to put it on. I have heated up the old badge with a hairdryer, and managed to pull it carefully off, and I now need advice on what to use to remove the sticky residue left behind, before fixing the new one. So, any advise? Is it white spirit or a brillo pad?

Mike

I've had success with lighter fuel in the past. Don't know a lot about how refined it is, but it's broken down the glue quite well and hasn't damaged the paintwork.

Mike,

Turps or White Spirit works pretty well. If you use some dental floss under the badge to cut through the main adhesive pad there won't be much left to remove. Don't rub hard with the turps, just work away at it slowly and it will gradually dissolve.

Dave

Thanks Dave and Oliver for your ideas.
I used white spirit and it worked fine, slowly and softly is the secret. And the new badge is now stuck on. Even tho' I got off all the residue, if I looked at the panel from a certain angle, I knew exactly where the old badge was so I could fit the new badge to the exact same place.
I took the opportunity to wash and wax the car again before fixing the badge, and used up some of my free Maguires sachets that I got from Walton Hall. I used up 4 of them, so I only have about 18 left now!
I have a midnight blue C2 and it had a black 'Carrera' badge, but I wanted to try a matt silver coloured badge, which I thought was a bit brave, but it looks great, much better than the black I think.
