New Battery needed?

Collected my Boxster S from the bodyshop about 10 days ago and have found the battery is not charging properly. Those wks off the road probably didn't help its condition! I have driven quite a bit since getting the car back (missed it so much of course) but went to open the car yesterday and the alarm went nuts, windows opening and closing slightly and repeatedly, spoiler going up, no chance of starting the car.

Checked the fluid levels in the cells (read that tip in PP earlier - thanks Mark) but they all look fine. Have had the battery out and connected to an airflow conditioner/charger for more than 24hrs but only reading 9 v. Its about 4.5 yrs old. Should I give up and buy a new one? Is the OPC the only place to buy a replacement and any ideas on cost? Thanks a lot for any help.

John

Buy a new one and I would suggest an OPC be the last place to look.

You can probably get one at Halfords or your local tyre man.

JCB..

Look in the Yellow Pages for battery suppliers or Bosch. From those sources I have got Bosch or Varta batteries which IMHO are the best in the business. They will advise on the most suitable for your car.

Much as I hate to admit it, I second Halfords for a battery their calcium range (year guarantee) seem to be very good and are usually lighter for a similar capacity. Just don't buy anything else there unless its on special offer [;)]

Also make sure to check what battery you currently have. If you have options like Porsche Sound package or the Bose Sound system, etc then you will have the Higher Amperage Battery (Check for the option code 197 under the hood).

You are quite right; the cheapest and least powerful battery is probably no good for a Porsche especially if it has any electrically powered 'extras'.

Just to say thanks for the tips guys. Picked up a new battery today - Bosch silver tech 80Ah (4yr guarantee and recommended by many). Maybe paid bit over the odds at 89 quid from local A1 store but service there always v good
