New Battery

Having been more on trickle charge the last few years than "alternator" charged, my battery has at last had enough.

I remember there being a post on here re batteries, but I can't seem to find it.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what is good out there at the moment? The old Bosch Silver series were once top of the list.

Many thanks,

I recently bought the Bosch S5 Silver battery Type 096. Seems very good. Car had a Halfords Calcium one fitted when I bought it which didn't appear to be that old but constantly needed re-charged. One tip is that Eurocarparts have an ebay shop where they sell the battery significantly cheaper than on their main website....I bought it that way and saved a few quid.

JCB are probably the cheapest out there, Bosch Silver S5 short code S5007 would be the best option

Many thanks Gents. Wilsonny, it was very interesting on Euro Car Parts - Website £121. Amazon £88. Ebay £82. Clever price differentiation for those less canny purchasers! JCB do just win in the end though - £80 with free delivery. Just ordered the Bosch S5 Silver 096 (code S5008 which appears to be the 993 recommendation from Bosch). Thanks again,

Bosch S3, S4, S5 all fine for the 993 - all very similar and very competent. And the 3/4/5 refers to the length of the warranty in years. Excellent cranking power they all have too, that's one of the main differences between Bosch and the lower-end choices. Well worth having at anything from £80 -110, which is small beer IMHO for anything up 10 years life, depending how they're looked after. [:)]

mine went last july i got a silverstar s5 yr for about 94.00 at halfords the one it replaced was a halfords own it was put on pre me getting the car so about late 2003 ish so from then till july 13 not bad going it was on trickle most of the time when not in use.

Euro car parts seem to have sales very often with big-ish discounts eg. 30% off their 'normal' prices, so worth keeping an eye out. Also - if you go through to Euro Car parts via topcashback.com you'll get a further bit off too - not going to make a major dent in running costs - but might pay for a drink or two!

Just had a quick look, and there is 10.1% cash back being promised on Euro Car Parts delivery orders via the www.topcashback.co.uk website. - as at 14th April, I've used this cashback site for a while now and have always received the promised cashback pretty quickly.
