New battery

It's time for a new battery.

Any recommendations ?

I had a nip to halfords (I know, but it was Sunday) and had a look at the hb010 but it seemed to have an open vent on the left that had a small amount of battery acid around it. Now I'm sure it's probably been badly handled and I know that most lead acids need a vent, but this battery venting looks poorly conceived. I really don't want any spills of acid in this car.

The battery in it at the moment is a much older one (also from halfords and originally in a 407 diesel) but does not have the same vent arrangement.

The Oem ones are far too expensive, but even the halfords one was £85.

Also while the battery came out of the 407 because it seemed to be faulty, it died in the 911 after replacing another battery that died. Time to check the charging I think as it might be overcharging them.

Hi Bosch S4 comes with 4 year warranty @ £84 or S5 (5 year) @ £107[:D] I had a Bosch on my SC for many years no problems as far as I know its still on there!

Try GSF they do Bosch battery and you get 10% off for club member Eurocarparts have sale on at moment worth a try. [:)]

I've had an Exide on my car for 5 years, bought from ECP because they didn't have the correct Bosch in stock. Good price and still good.

Cheers. The Eurocarparts Bosch S4 looks like the winner. Also will check the charging voltage does not go above ~14.5V as I do wonder if its damaging the batteries

There are a number of web sites that will tell what battery to get for your Porsche, e.g. http://www.carparts911.co.uk/ or www.allbatteries.co.uk Buy online as they are much cheaper than Halfords. The batteries are sealed, I last bought a Bosch from Carparts911, still good. Colin

Certainly halfords is not where I would chose to get a battery, but it was Sunday and dry but the car would not start even after a good while charging. What shocked me was the evidence of acid around the battery top. It had a funny little red pipe that obviously fitted into a plugged hole (, but on the other side it had the same hole with a T shaped plug that you could blow through and some mositure around it that had the tell tale tang of battery acid. Not happy at all.

New Bosch S4 bought £83. Fitted and working (and most of the skin still attached to knuckles). Next job, replace the gas struts on the front lid (should have done it the other way round !) Thanks everyone.

i got a s5 from halfords about 15 months ago the one on was from halfords from pre sept 2004 to july 2013 not bad a ? it cost about 97 quid then.
