New bonnet struts

Matt, replacing the bonnet struts isn't difficult - just awkward !

It helps if you've got small hands (or a willing partner with small hands) as access - particularly to the bottom fixings - is quite limited.

Originally the tops & bottoms of the struts were located by means of clevis pins/'R' clips but you may find that one or more of these have been replaced with a bolt & nyloc nut because a previous owner has dropped/lost one of the 'R' clips.

Good to know - I need to do mine once my re-spray's finished.

The cheapest I've seen them is £7.49 + VAT each (fronts and rear) at design911.co.uk. Can anyone vouch for the quality of these?

Stephen, can't comment specifically about the quality of Design 911's bonnet struts but I have tried struts from a number of similar outlets & have found all of them to be pretty weak.

Some parts specialists (eg Transend) stock 'lifetime' bonnet/engine lid struts at a (significantly!) higher price - maybe someone here has tried them & can give feedback.

I have the answer !!![:D] I have a pair I picked up in Germany they are not the standard PSI they are uprated and they work great as my bonnet has filler in it they would show up very quickly I can hold my bonnet half way and let go and it stays there they have been on for about 6 months and they are fine. best thing I bought.

Thanks all. Maybe I'll get the girlfriend to do it then!!

I shall report after next weekend. I'm looking forward to be reunited with the 12 after an enforced 6-week abscence!

I have some Weltmeister 'lifetime' struts from the aforementioned Transend.
I think the lifetime they are referring to are possibly mice or guinnea pigs as mine are suffering from 'droop' already. So don' throw away that prop...

Where did you get them from, I fitted some new ones about a year ago and they have already gone floppy!

I picked mine up from a show in Germany Auto Classica well worth going. mainly for s/h stuff.

I will did out the company name. Most of the UK companies have not heard of the uprated ones, mainly because I think they do very well in sell you the duff ones [;)] I have a catalogue will dig it out and post it

cost about $40 Euros I think
Still fine still hold the bonnet half way and no droop and my bonnet has filler in it as well.

how about these chaps .... look at the LIFT-O-MAT

I have no idea how good, so be nice to see what you chaps think
http://www.stabilus.com/frameset.asp?sprache=englisch&headline=Service&bereich=service&subsite=menue.asp

look under spare parts - automotive - english
now it only lists the 911 application part numbers ,but I am guessing they apply to ours
