New Boxster- Not such a pretty face?

Just to be a bit controversial and to get a bit of discussion, I say the old box looks better and more distinctive from the front than the new one.

Does anyone else agree, or am I just jealous?

I agree 100%

Not only that but the 986 rear end is just mouthwatering.

JCB..

I like the new lights, and the revised air-dam. But it could do with looking lower...

The back seems to have been made to look higher, and I miss the shaped doors. I've said enough about the side intakes before [;)]

Sum up: Nice front, the rest looks bulky.

does look the 'familiar' ?

Have to confess to occasionally confusing MR2's for original Boxster's,

Briefly, head on & from a long way away mind.

Bound to happen even more now.

That said I think both the new & "old" Boxsters look great.

In answer to the original question:

Yes you are jealous and you all need glasses.

Just enjoy the last few weeks of driving a car which has been superceded/improved etc etc before the new ones arrive and make the Mk1 look very dated!!![:D]

(yes I am awaiting a Mk2 BoxsterS - only a couple of weeks to go!)[]

Lets not forget though that the current MR2 was a BLATANT copy of the Boxster in the first place []

Just like the first MR2 was a copy of the Fiat X1/9, and the next version a copy of a generic Ferrari shape, right down to the curved rear window and the round rear lights. Presumably the MR2 Mk4 will look like a cute Lambo Galliano (with ice sweetie!)

[8D]I'm a few months away from my 80% New MY05 and agree with newboxster but would add fuel to the fire by saying that most journo comments have been shame on Porsche for not making the car look any different to the original in the eyes of non Porschephiles but, and thats a BIG but, its the way it goes in every department, its the way it now sounds and its the overall quality of the 80% new parts that make this version the best Boxster ever and definitely the best value Porsche to date.

I saw my first 997 in the flesh at the weekend and think it looks soft. The oval lights work well with the old 911 tunnel effect on the wings........this has been flattened as it has lost its hard edge. Happy with my 986 for now!

In response to daro911:

I am happy the new boxster looks very similar to the original, the journos all seem to miss the point as they all quote "evolution not revolution".

I drove past a Vauxhall dealer the other day and saw the new Astra convertable....how can they still call in an Astra as it so different to the last model and the one bfore that and the one before that.............

If Porsche did the same they would quickly be where they were before the Boxster saved their arses!!! 911....looks like the last one which looks like the last one........get it!!! 928, 944 thank god they have gone.

I think all Boxsters look great and the minimal changes to their styling will hold their value and in time to come become a classic like the nine eleven!!!

Roll on March 1st!!!!

A quote from todays Times online...

[FONT=Times New Roman"]Going a little more upmarket the new Porsche Boxster should do well but speculators need to be cautious. Take the profit soon or it could evaporate as buyers realise the car looks quite similar to the outgoing model.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

My dealer got their 2 Boxsters in on Wednesday and the side vents are as huge in person as they look in the pictures. My mechanic friend just came back from 987 school and gave me the 987 technical introduction booklet that is given to the mechanics. There is no technical reason for the vents being so big.

I spoke to a salesman I have known for 6 years today and he was told at the Boxster introduction the reason they are so large was to make it look something like a Carrera GT.

I think the new Boxster has got the much needed identity. The old one looked too similar to the 996. In fact I prefer the front of the Boxster to the 997.
