ORIGINAL: Cybalist Hi folks Am now the proud owner of a Zenith Blue Boxster 2.5, 1999, with just 19,000 miles on the clock and full Porsche dealer service history. I purchased it from Mortimer Prestige Cars for £8,790 last week. So far, no issues except that once, the windows wound down a few cm as though the roof had been unlatched, so maybe that's a roof microswitch issue. Will keen an eye on it. She is pristine throughout and I'm looking forward to many miles of great motoring. My last performance car was a red Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV. The boxster is less WOW and a bit slower but more FUN! [:D]

Welcome, you have come into Boxster ownership just at the right time. (The sun is out) re: the roof a simple micro-switch problem can be swapped with ease.

Thanks guys, I feel better knowing there are some Porsche gurus in here to help if/when things go pearshaped. The weather has turned at just the right time, as you say. Will go out for another spin later :)

Dont wait for things to go pear shaped![&o] If you think the fun has just started with the sun coming out - join the club! What better way to enjoy your car with fellow enthusiast up and down the country. Monthly Regional meets, local and natinonal event, even trips abroad, monthly mag, the forum, the Boxster Register, in fact the sun nevers goes down when you are a club member![;)] (I wish)

I looked at that car a couple of days before you bought it. It looked very nice, although I felt I wanted something a little newer - bought an 05 2.7l with 47k miles for £13.5k a few days later from the same place. Has been fun so far..... hope you continue to enjoy yours

The 2.5 is a truly superb car, my first Boxster was a 2.5 - 5 years of bullet proof motoring, serviced myself and maintained, nothing serious went wrong at all just little niggly things like the MAF, door lock and the throttle idle speed control valve sticking, a super car that never ever let me down and the gearbox is so slick, much better than the later 6 speed units. Being able to see out of the rear window will be a new experience for you after the Countach - so parking is a doddle. Enjoy it and welcome

Hi, I am in the same club with a Zenith Blue 2.5 Tip. I bought it 5 weeks back for £7250 with FSH and 45k on the clock.... I love the colour, the sound and the tiptronic... These cars are just heaven :) http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t433/Daveyh70/15c8a21a.jpg Hope you enjoy it as much as I am

Congrats ! Welcome to simple unfussed and pleasurable motoring. I bought a '99 2.5 Boxster, as a fun car and have been stuck on it for over 8 years - even in the face of newer models ! I absolutely love the simplicity of it. No fussiness in the cabin (the modern ones just look too bling like an Audi TT) and the engine is so sweet revving. It came with MO30 suspension (factory fitted) along with traction control (brilliant in the snow !) and 17inch rims. I used to commute in London daily with it but it still has covered only 35k miles so feels as new. Its still on its original rear discs and clutch. I have added a few accessories such as - Bose Sound system and Litronics and in the process of installing a PSE (switchable exhaust). As for the litronics I may remove them because I personally prefer the amber colour indicators - classic ! Service wise as long as you regularly inspect it (OPC are great for inspection ) you should catch anything untoward early. Things to watch out for in my experience are : Check water drains (nearly always get blocked with leaves) Door plastic inner membrane again persishes over time allows water in at bottom of door - easy and cheap to replace Engine front mount (you will feel play in transmission), these just perish over time as made of rubber (newer ones are more durable) and not expensive nor difficult to install. Use high quality fuel Don't bother using mobil 1 or the newer really thin engine oil. The engine prefers the older oils - I use VW Synt 10/40 Syn Blend. Anything below 5w/30w is bad for them and from research the older high performane oils are the best. And most of all use them regularly ! OPC engineer advised me to give it a blast now and then and if used regularly the rubber seals in shocks, engine last longer ! Have fun !
