New boxster s owner...

Hi all,

I'm picking up a 2003 boxster s tomorrow (obviously very excited) and had a few small questions...

  • It has the satnav thing but how do I know if it has the bose speakers?
  • I can't seem to find where you buy the porsche members club stuff that people have mentioned on here anywhere on the site?
  • Is it better to take out a porsche warranty over something like the AA one?
  • Can anyone recommend a good place in the manchester area for servicing etc?

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

Congratulations - I know how you feel!

To your questions:
It has bose if you have a Base Port on top of the engine (Between the seats) instead of a storage box (with the sliding doors)
The club has not got an online store yet - or do you mean membership? If so then go to www.porscheclubgb.com and click on "Join PCGB Today"
The Porsche Waranty will generally be better than 3rd party ones - the Porsche one has no upper cost limit
I would recommend Hartech in Bolton if you want an independant to do the servicing www.hartech.org , however, if you want the Porsche warranty, you willl need to go to an Official Porsche Dealer (in Manchester this would be either Wilmslow, Bolton, or Chester - see www.porsche.co.uk for details.

Don't forget to come back and tell us how good the car is! [8D]

Welcome ....

If you have Bose ... the door speakers have Bose logos on them and behind your head in the middle is a huge base speaker :D

Got to be fast [;)]

(The number of times I've spent 5 min composing a post - only to find I've bee beaten to it...[:-])

Welcome Andrew and congratulations on an excellent buy, I'm sure it will give you years of motoring bliss!

I fully concur with Mark, you should definately get the Porsche warranty at £895. I've heard of a few dealers who used to offer 3rd party insurance only to get hurt by non-payouts and have since only recommended taking out Porsche warrantys. As Mark pointed out, they have limits to their payouts (eg RAC is £5k) which if you need a new gearbox or engine, is of no use.

You will however need to have the Porsche 111 inspection carried out beforehand (price varies from £150-250) and you need to rectify any faults with warrantable items (although this work can be undertaken at any garage using Porsche approved parts). You can have 30 days between the inspection and taking out the warranty (limited mileage)

Having said that, Mark also mentioned a garage called Hartech. They now offer a Lifetime maintenance plan, see link below
http://www.hartech.org/docs/LMP_Jan_2007.pdf

For basically the same price as the Porsche warranty (but paid in monthly instalments) you get free servicing, free MOTs, and free labour costs for anything that needs to be fixed, and that includes wear and tear items.

however, if you want the Porsche warranty, you willl need to go to an Official Porsche Dealer

I'm not sure that's actually true...see this recent thread http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=271358

...or a cargo net if you don't have the Bose upgrade or a Wind deflector; believe it not but the storage box is designed for the storage of the wind deflector and so if you don't have the wind deflector then you don't get the box.

Thanks everyone - it is without doubt the most amazing drive ever!!!! Two days booked off work starts now!

Don't have the bose thing but I did wonder what that slidey thing by head was, not got round to playing with everything yet!!

Thanks for the advice on the warranty, going to read up on the Hartech thing otherwise go main Porsche.
