New Boxsters oil consumption?

Guest

Hi Bearing in mind I am a Newby at all things porker in terms of ownership, having done a few hundred miles (as you do) to familiarise myself with the new baby, it seems to drink oil (a litre approx) is this normal for a new Boxster Engine, had dozens of new cars over the last 30 years but this does seem heavier to me than I would have expected :)

All assistance gratefully recieved

Cheers

Unless you are unlucky and have bought an oil eater I would have said 3-4K+ miles per litre was more the norm IME [&o]
The car may have been short filled on delivery so check it out from now and see what you get.

Alternatively no dipstick so you are relying on a gauge being acurate []

Hi, Missus misscomunicated the gauge readings[:)] turned out to be 1/4 litre for the first 900 miles (have to play with it right) :)

So that would mean a litre for 3-4K which sounds right from what you say :)

What does everyone reckon the best oil is to use on the Boxster obviously its a synthetic but is there a preferred Brand/Rating in the community?

Cheers

Tom

Enjoy the car, you sound so thrilled with it.
Another one with permagrin

They really are a car in a class of their own, just that the dealers are a bit crap.

My 987 2.7 hasn't used any oil yet in 5000 miles.
If you open the hatch where you fill the oil you'll find a sticker saying "Use Mobil 1"

Mine didn't use a drop til i changed it at 11k miles, and hasn't used a drop of the fresh stuff in the following 7k miles. My old 986 never used a drop in 12k miles either.

There is a long list of officially Porsche aproved oils - not all OPCs use Mobil1 - some use shell Helix. Even Castrol GTX Magnatec is an approved oil.

Absolutely, they are all approved, but if topping up a new car from the factory it will have Mobil 1 in it. No point topping up with something different.

I too have never needed to top mine up. I put about a 3rd of a litre in once before heading out on the 'ring. But I really didn't need to as I was way above 1/2 way on the dipstick and guage. Thinking about it - it was probably the wrong thing to do anyway [&:]

Have had my 53 2.7 Boxster for 18 months now. I got it with 12k miles & immediately got the 12K service done at a OPC.

I've now 17k on the clock - should I be looking at an oil change prior to the next service or should it be ok until then?
