New brake pads

WUF decided that the brake pads needed changing last week, announcing the fact with a warning light.

With the Scottich tour coming up in a couple of weeks time (yet another set of 285 rears to buy as well [&:]), I took the plunge today and ordered EBC reds all round. I've been running thses on baby WUF for a year now (with rebuilt turbo/250 brakes) and am pleased with the result.

The down side is just inder £200 for the front (993 turbo) and rear (250 Turbo) sets.

I should have some feedback after a couple of thousand miles chasing Nick Fearn around Scotland [:D] [:D]

I'd be interested to hear how the reds perform, I have greens all round on mine and are fab, but it you start braking like a loony as I do, from around the 100 mark down to 0 they start to fade a bit which isn't very inspiring!

I had greens and went to reds and I didn't notice that much improvement. The reds do wear a lot faster though and produce more dust. I am thinking of going back to greens. However I do run extra ducting for the front brakes which probably helps with fade reuction.

I've got EBC Red Ceramics on the front with Zimmerman drilled disks. They performed perfectly fine on a recent outing on Donington the other week. Not a hint of fade and I was braking from about 115/120 mph on the back straight down to about 20mph-ish for the chicane onto the start/finish straight in as short a distance as it took whilst I was stamping on the brake pretty much as hard as I could so i'm sure I was getting plenty of heat into them. With it being my first outing on a track I have nothing for comparison but they seemed OK to me, though I find they are not snappy sharp in traffic especially when cold.

I was thinking about trying something like Pagid or Mintex pads next time around as they seem to get good reviews.

What a girl [;)]

That's a 3rd gear, 3500rpm, still on boost chicane for a 944T. I reckon about 40-50mph [:D]

I'm about to go back to EBC greens on our S2 as its current OEM pads are driving me mad with the squeals

Well I was taking it in 2nd at about 4000 rpm (maybe a bit less) - as I said it was my first outing on a track, obviously alot of room for improvement!!

Anyway after all that practice at braking and working my way down the box i've got the heel-and-toe technique off to a tee!

I've just put Mintex 1155 & new front discs into mine - have been very happy with Mintex in other track cars - approx. £90 delivered from Rally Design.

The car came with some Porterfield pads - R4 I think. I wasn't too impressed with the brake performance on track, although this may be down to worn discs as well.
After 1 track day + a drive home they started to squeal like mad. When I took them out to fit the Mintex pads, there was no trace of copperslip on the back of the pads - maybe a re-application would have helped stop the squeal?.

I ran Red ceramic all round on my 924S's - they were fade free on the track, but lacked bite/feel. Wore pretty well though (just over half worn after 6000 miles + 4 track days) & relatively dust free (unlike the Mintex). I don't think you can get red ceramic for the 250 brakes (standard Red is a very different compound AFAIK)

You certainly can - they've been on baby WUF for a year.

I may try some of the ceramic Reds (maybe even the track Yellows) on my Turbo before I decide whether to go Big Black or not.

Anyway I've ordered a full set of Greens from http://www.k300performance.co.uk/ and after mentioning PCGB I got 12% discount, which means the whole lot will be here tomorrow for an inclusive price of just over £100 [:D] - great service!

I got some universal ducts from demon tweeks and put them behind the lower grill either side of the radiator (held in mostly with tie wraps). I then ran hoses back so they point roughly in the direction of the brakes, I dont have any pics but will take some next time I am in the area. Was a bit worried they would block air to other bits (the power steering coil) but they dont seem to have an effect - they are not that tight fitting.

fair enough :) - I looked on ebcbrakesdirect - they don't list them. Found them on motorsportworld.co.uk

I think they should be 3767C for 250's - 3997C for Big Blacks

I'd agree with that which is why I might try something different next time. I've got a set of SS braided brake hoses and some ATE Super Blue fluid in the garage waiting patiently to be installed and i'm hoping they might improve the feel a bit. I decided not to go for the yellow ATE 200 stuff in the end as I read some reviews that said it was not simply a yellow version of Super Blue and did not have anywhere near the temperature capacity of Super Blue. It's going to be tricky to replace since my current fluid is also Blue.

No problems with the Zimmerman cross-drilled disks i'm pleased to report apart from the usual rusting of the bells which I thought I had escaped but it has finally caught up with me.

I had a chat with Allan about pads today. As you may remember I have Performance Friction 97's in mine and aside from the hideously aggressive dust I really like them, but they are the only ones I have tried in my big blacks. It turns out Allan is really impressed with them also.

I also saw some PF rotors and they are awesome also (aparently - they certainly look it). If I needed brakes I might well be trying them next time.
