Excuse my ingnorance but does Silverstone offer some extra facilities only for 911 speccers, such as testing cars with certain options?
I am speccing a facelift Boxster and assume this does not apply to me.
I am finding it difficult to decide on some new options, e.g LSD when you can't try them out or even see them on the UK configurator.
Chris

Awsome spec - hope Porsche have sorted out their supplier problems by then - my order has been delayed because they have run out of wheels!!! (the new standard C2S design). So my car which was supposed to have been delivered now has been postponed. I've decided to wait until March, like you, particularly as I am out of the country in the New Year for a few weeks.

You mean since the Driving Experience centre is literally just minutes up the road? I would think that's entirely possible. A course there is, I believe, included with all Gen.2 911s, plus if you're paying the ÂŁ3k deposit, I think you're "permitted" more in the way of test drives. Having said that, they don't have an enormous fleet of test cars outside and I don't think they would want showroom cars going outside at this time of year given the filthy roads.

Best thing to do is give them a ring - I can recommend Mark McLoughlin as he's really switched on and very accomodating - tell him I sent you.

If you mean he is at the Driving Experince centre and I might be able to have a quick go in a car with certain option that would be worthwhile. On the other hand I dont want to use up my Track Day experience and if you are saying Silverstone dealership are a helpful OPC than I might as well stick to going to Guildford as its a long way for that as I am on S/Coast. Problem is they dont have demos with the new options I want to try.

Thanks for all the kind comments guys. [:)]

I went to Silverstone because it is the only place to see all the colours, including the new cream... They have 60 cars in their compound there and so it was possible for me to see my short list of colours in the metal. Usually you only get to see silver, black and grey at the dealers. They also had a Cayman in my exact colour combination, which I wanted to have a look at..

Swindon OPC arranged for me to go there with complementary lunch. There was no test drive. In reality, if you know your colour choice, Silverstone does not offer any additional benefits over the dealer.... other than a lovely environment, and an opportunity to see the cars on the track...

Mark is based at the Towcester dealership, not at the Driving Experience.

Here's a Google Map photo of the dealership - must have been taken on a club concourse day I think with the car park nearly full!

I spoke to my OPC since and he believes he can resolve the open issues - he has offered me a Cayman S to compare with non-S.

Bluetooth is the only option he cannot committ to as he says the CDR-30 is being developed for the facelift Boxster/Cayman not the GEN 2, 911 so we cant try it out in the showroom to see if my T-Mobile phone works.
I note the list of phones does not include anything T-Mobile. Does anyone know if a G1 works OK?
I will leave my Driver Experience day until after I have got the car but dont want to spec it wrong.

Hi Chris,
Super spec[:D] With regards to the G1 phone it would appear form this webpage
http://www.wirelessinfo.com/content/T-Mobile-G1-Cell-Phone-Review/Ratings-amp;-Specs.htm
that it does not have Sim Access Profile and therefore will not work with the telephone module other than as a simple hands free unit. I have a Nokia with SAP and it is a excellent system, especially having you phonebook displayed on the PCM and the centre instrument display. But I'm sure you know that already!

Hi ts,
That's disappointing as my old Compact II worked fine in my S5, I suppose that must have had SAP?
The dealer seems to think a compatible phone should display on the CDR-30 but I have my doubts and he is not prepared to committ.
Never mind as I don't use it for work I can't really justify the option cost as for handsfree its still a lot.
Are there any current T-Mobile phones that have SAP, does the I-Phone I wonder?
Chris

Wow - that is an amazing spec - red on white will be stunning.

2 points for you to consider or ignore:

1. When you get your car they can configure the phone module to HFP then pretty much everything works just fine.
2. This is hard to explain...storage bin logo is a great option but is also gives leather stitching down the edges of the bin - this means that unless you do something with the centre console (rear section) you will have leather stitches on the edges of the bin and on the edges of the centre console around the PCM etc but nowhere else inbetween and that looks silly....therefore the obvious thing to do is to get the rear section of centre console in leather also and critically the gear level trim in leather too - this is an exclusive option (code CTZ I think but I'm getting old) - the salespeople tend to miss this cause they don't know their product in my opinion. The alternative is to have the rear section of the centre console painted in ext colour - I have this and it is very cool!

Hope this helps!

Hi Mex99

Thanks for the very useful comments on the telephone and storage bin logo. I will have a look at the cost the rear section in leather, otherwise delete the logo on storage bin... [;)]

Hi Robert,

By coincidence, another resident in my building has just bought a white 997 turbo with red leather interior.
I think it looks different and very cool........[:)]
