New Car: My first Porsche

New member
Following my first post last week, I have now taken the plunge and ordered a 911 Carrerra S 997. It is a brand new C16 spec, and in the showroom. I am hoping to pick it up this weekend:

Meteor Grey with Black Full Leather.
Electrically Adjustable Adaptive and Heated Front Seating,
Rear Wiper,
Multi Function Steering Wheel,
Cruise Control, Rear Parking Sensors,Sport Chrono Plus Package,
Electric Slide and Tilt Sunroof,
Extended PCM Navigation and Telephone Module,
Bose Hi Fi,
6 Disc CD Autochanger,
Floor Mats (FFS!),
Auto Dimming Rear View Mirrors,
Chrome Plated Exhaust Tailpipes,
Door Entry Guards in Stainless Steel,
19" Carrera Sport Alloy Wheels,
Porsche Crests to Headrests

I cannot wait. It will be a big leap from a Range Rover, but I hope worth it in the long run.

Pics to follow [:D][:D]

Congrats!

You'll want to immediately start researching best prices for Sports Exhaust retrofit (especially with 10% PCGB discount) - if not a full X51.

If I only had one option on my 911 it would be PSE, without question! Before I had mine retrofitted I was missing half the driving experience (especially when 'hacked' to always open). So well worth the extra money.

[:D]

Congratulations on a great spec. Very similar to my own choice, but I also added the Carrera S logo to the centre cover (Option CUV) which was featured on the Porsche Exclusive web page about the time I was completing my spec.

I decided not to spec the 6 CD changer as I felt the MP3 format provided sufficient choice for me - equivalent to around ten CDs per CDROM.

Congratulations on a fine car & spec.

When you say its C16, did you order it spec and order it yourself from a dealer in europe or have you just seen it already finished in a dealer as is?

Congrats very nice spec indeed...I am sure it will be far more fun than a range rover to drive!.I am quite surprised you missed off the sports chrono pack though, as Alex says the sports exhaust/sport button is a pretty much must have to me.
Loving that centre console with the Carrera S on...looks great!

That is a very nice extra - I would have gone for that if I knew about it. How much did it cost / can it be done retro?

Cost was £159.80 inc. VAT. I think it can be done retro but I remember reading something on the Rennlist forum that suggested this was not as straight-forward as one would expect. I think the problem was that Porsche would only supply a replacement for an original fitment so it is becomes necessary to obtain details (I presume VIN #) from someone who had this fitted in the trim material/colour required (mine is in Ocean Blue BTW). I seem to recall that there were a few threads seeking this information but I never saw any reports of a successful retro fit.

This was pretty much the spec I was after and was about to push the button with an OPC when this spec came up from an independent dealer and as it was immediate, I went for it.

I did get the sports chrono pack, I just listed it along the same line as a couple of other things. To be honest, I would not have gone for this if I had built the car myself. Perhaps on a Tiptronic, but I am not sure what it will do for the drive on a manual.

I missed the scribed arm rest [] Snarf is correct in what he says, you need a Vin number and a car with the same colour spec on order, when the other car is delivered the OPC remove it and hand it over to you at a nice tidy cost...

The sports Chrono does also give you added function on the PCM, like being able to pre-set aircon, locking doors etc... not massive things- but things you would otherwise need to go to the OPC to have done ££££

Well done Marc, I look forward to seeing the pics [:D]

Lovelly spec - congratulations

Do look at the PSE (sports exhaust) it makes such a difference to the noise

Short shift and x51 powerkit are other cool options but you can alwyas enjoy a few thousand miles in the unadulterated 997s before coming to the dark side and getting more power

Tell me what you think of the adaptive seats when you avhe had the car a while, just for future interest (a nearly option on the current toy)

As I said in another thread - by not specifying PSE I was able to stretch my options budget to fund the adaptive seats. They are comfortable and the inflatable bolsters hold you in position very nicely on the twisty bits. No regrets about my trade-off decision[:)].

a) That would have been good value on factory order as looks good and IMHO better than embossed headrests but not worth it retro.

b) I think I need to finally open the manual on the car and read up on some features - locking doors was a question that I had been asking myself recently as I noticed that the doors don't autolock currently when I drive away - like the Cayenne did.

Think I need to read the manual too Jamie, Boxster auto locked same as Cayenne, just presumed it was a difference on the 997. Only problem is whenever I might have time to read the manual I usually start thinking "read the book or go for a quick blast" strangely never got round to reading the book too much fun to be had on the road !

It looks like collection time will be 12 May. How am I going to keep myself calm between then!!
