New Clutch...really?

Hi All
I am about to realise a boyhood dream and buy my first 911 C2S and I think I have found the one for me!
I am upgraded from my 987 Boxster S having also owned a 986 Boxster in the past
The 911 I am looking at is a 56 plate 2007, 997 C2S but one concern I have is that it has had a new clutch!..at 44k Miles?
Does this seem odd to any of you? I am very familiar with the RMS issue having had the problem in my 986 Boxster but I am surprised a new clutch was needed at 44k miles...apparently it was slipping?...that was the explanation anyway..
Am I being over cautious here? or could the new clutch be disguising an IMS failure issue?

Just wanted to know your thoughts before I take the plunge :)

Hi Rich,

Sounds ok to me.....I had the clutch replaced on my C2S and it had only done 32k miles [&:]

Wasn't slipping as such but OPC noted that pedal was very stiff and this was a sure sign that the clutch was on it's way out.

Fantastic car and had no issues with it before or after.

Just a thought but the RMS may have been replaced at some point as it might have been leaking - or just mildly moist - as mine (996) was at 13K miles. It was a bit of a no-brainer to pop a new clutch in at the same time as I'd bought the car at 6K miles but had no idea how it had been driven up until that point.

So I did the clutch knowing that the only use it was going to get was from my driving and not someone else's. This way I knew exactly where I was with the clutch, plate and thrust bearing, etc.

It might also have needed a fresh clutch even if RMS hadn't been weeping as these cars do tend to put quite a lot of torque through their clutches and 44K isn't that unheard of! I think that if this were the case then they'd have probably popped a new RMS in at the same time also - it works either way, really.

I have now got two options and am really struggling to decide what to do
Do I go for the a 2007 (56) C2S from a non-specialist dealer as described above or a 2004 (54) C2S from an OPC
Both cars have exactly the same spec and are the same price, milage etc

The 2 year warranty is obviously a major consideration for me

Am I better off getting that or a 2 year younger car? My private plate will be on on either of them

Definately get the car from the indi - it will come with 3 months warranty anyway, by which time you can apply for the Porsche warranty.
 
Thanks Rodney, really appreciate that answer as that is what I wanted to do :)
I figured the 2004 risidule value will be far less than the 2007 and in reality I am just paying for the Warranty from the OPC
Fingers crossed in a few days time I can be a regular member of this 911 forum and can leave the Boxster Forum behind!

I had a Boxster and still read their threads - cracking cars.

Fingers crossed for you, the 911 is iconic for a good reason.
 
agree with you rodney!!having enjoyed both water and air cooled 911`s and a midengined cayman s from new i eventually upgraded 4 months ago to the best yet-a boxster s[:D]


just in time for the best 3 months top down motoring weather I can remember!!

I suspect when i get a 991 i will hang on to the boxster for the roof down days-it is such fun -didnt realise what i had been missing all these years or what the boxster boys had been raving about-i do now!
enjoy the C2S though-and yep i would go for the newer one,but get the warranty as soon as you can-I reckon I saved about 3-4k by doing the same with the boxster(having bought 2prev cars from OPC at frankly silly prices)

I've always wanted to own a 911!!!
I have really loved my Boxsters too but am just chuffed to be able to 'upgrade'
I am sure I'll own a few more Boxsters in my lifetime and will still or course check out the Boxster forum regularly :)
