New Clutch

I would get it done by a specialist, not because they would be any better at fitting a clutch which is the same basic setup as any 993, but they are probably better equpped to check out other things while they are under the car, such as bushes and joints.

Is nt Autowerke Mike , ex Porsche mechanic works on some lovely stuff? Wud ave thought if it is him he was special enough.

Need a new clutch. From the point of view of keeping the cars 'good history' etc should I get clutch fitted by a known RS specialist eg Tognola/JZ Machtech who are a long, long way from me, or could I get a good but less well known specialist to do it eg Autowerke up here in Norfolk.

I would always get servicing done by known RS specialist but does it matter on a new clutch?

Thanks
Piers

i think the days of "opc history" being of value are long gone given the poor service and knowlege they show for older cars and the fact that modern Porsche parts don't seem to be German anymore! To me, receipts from a good garage including for the parts mean more. I use a Bentlyey specialist and Race team to look after mine for service/set up work on the basis they are friends, know their stuff and I know the job is being done correctly. When i took to Porsche Bolton, (posts last year on this) they took the car out for a joyride....when questioned they said it was to help bleed the cooling system....on a 993...

Agree totally. I use Autostrasse in Coggeshall, North Essex. Three very experienced mechanics who in fact are often approached by the local OPC to help out with "difficult" cars! JohnC 993turbo

I'm not comparing OPC with Specialist as I think we're all agreed we be mad to take 993RS to an OPC! My question is whether or not from the point of view of re-sale of car and it's 'history' one should go to a 'known' RS Specialist (eg Tognola, JZ Machtech etc) or a regular Porsche Specialist for something like a new clutch?

I would just go to the specialist who will look after the car and take care of it properly - it is a 993 after all. Someone who does careful work is much more important to me. harry

If you have a 5000 mile 993rs maybe, just maybe a row of opc/famous specialist stamps may keep resale safer but I just think find a garage you know do good work, and stay with them and keep the receipts for the parts too. If I am looking for a specialist car i want to see the evidence for work rather than just a stamp in the book.

Thanks John, too late this time as I dropped it off at Autowerke in Norwich yesterday. But will speak to Mike. Are you going to the Ring/Spa with RMA? Best, Piers
