Hi all, just thought I would post up a couple of pics of my new Chariot, hopefully picking it up tomorrow!

I have had my 944 Turbo for 3 years and have covered over 36,000 miles in that time, as she has now crested 230,000 miles I thought it prudent to retire her to an easier, more fun life and for me to try something else.

I did seriously consider a 928, 964 and XK8 as alternatives, but decided that the as the 944 did everything I need it to and was such a wonderful car, then a 968 was the sensible choice as so much of the precticality and driving experience is carried over.

Thanks to the PCGB forum this is the easiest sell/buy I have ever done!

I casually mention that I am looking to change, and I receive an inbox full of PMs of interest in my old girl and a prospective new steed. following a few weeks of thought I decided to go for it and 944Man came down last Friday and gave my girl the once-over and test drive (as well as a long chin-wag on all things automotive!) so she will be heading to the midlands later this week to start her transformation into a Turbo Cup Replica.

I popped down to see Sarge's immaculate 968 Sport on Sunday, and had an equally convivial discussion around oily things as well as a long, hard look at his pride and joy. I couldn't fault her and she was almost the exact spec I had in mind, so the deal was done!

Looking forward to getting to know her and having a red Porsche that stays Red! Will also be able to contribute to the 944 vs 968 thread running in the 944 section too!

Thanks all, it is guards Red, but very, very shiny! Not something I am used to!!!
Will have to make sure I keep it that way

Sarge did the big reveal with his electric garage door (we were in the garage, it was parked outside in the sunshine) Not having seen any photos I was pleasantly surprised to see it had the Black wheels, they are one of the few cars I like with non-silver alloys. The interior is like new with the original Sony head-unit and Multi-changer

Gaurds Red? Really?

It looks more orange in this picture, but the more red looking example that I found wont display, unfortunately...

Well done, very jealous and cant wait to find my 968 or 944 turbo once I make my mind up.

I have kind of decided that I am going to look at 944 Turbo's and 968's and keep looking until I fall in love, or I find a deal I can not resist. But I will probably end up buying through love rather than logic if I am honest with myself for a moment! lol

This is going to sound really rude, but I am trying to build up a database in my head of prices for cars and what they actually sell for, instead of prices people advertise for.

So.. How much did you pay for the 968 and what did you get for your 944 Turbo?

:)

By the way Jeremy, whilst not trying to divert users away from here, it is worth joining the 968uk forum. While it isn't quite as busy as the 944 forum here, it certainly matches it for quality of content.

Thanks Marv, I registered on it 3 years ago, but I'll be bu**ered if I can remember my log-on credentials!

I will PM you Chris

Jeremy, I had a Guards Red 968 coupe for many a year, initially as our main car but soon became the toy. Without realising it, over the years the paintwork took on a slightly purple tinge - as I discovered 3 years ago when I got into claying and paint correction. I used AG Bodyshop 02B and 03B paint correcting fluid after the wash/clay/wash routine and was amazed at the difference it made. OK, I had a small 12v twin (4") pad polishing machine which helped, but it still took a lot of time and elbow grease, but it was well worthwhile. The other option, of course, is to get a pro detailer to mop the car, but be very careful about who you choose to do this, and be prepared for a significant 3 figure bill. Once done, provided you keep a good layer of polish and wax on the car, it will stay bright and shiny for ages.

Better half bought me a Kestrel DAS6 DA polisher Xmas before last, and I've found it safe and easy to use, just be sure to mask all edges with 3M blue masking tape! I've also seen pros using 3M's correcting fluids, one of which is 3000 grit so very fine (02B is 2000, 03B 1200). I used it on the coupe before I sold her and on the cab that replaced it, plus did herself's silver MB when we got it - that's now been replaced recently, so I have another MB to do once the weather improves!

A few pics now that Sarge has delivered her (I hope you pedalled home OK?)

Must throw a Bucket of water over the old girl before 944Man comes and picks her up!

As you can see it is Guards red and I am very used to spending hours polishing! Hopefully as this is in much better fettle to start with than the 944 I can maintain it with lots of elbow grease

WOW the 968 looks so much better!

[;)]

(I actually prefer the 944 front end, 968 rear end, joking aside..both look magnificent though [:D])

Have to disagree with you for once Marv - I think both ends of the 968 look better! The rear is so much cleaner and less fussy, and I love having the headlights visible when down!

I actually prefer the 944 front end, although that maybe 3 years of ownership (plus my Mum having a 924 for 8 years when I were a lad) and from some angles the rear of the 944T can look more muscular, but the 968 is a smoother more modern shape overall

I will enjoy getting to know it!

Aesthetics aside, what do you think of the car to drive Jeremy? Im particularly interested in through gear acceleration. I made a smilar transition years ago and the 968 seemed better all round, but it was a nearly new car and I suspect now that it wasnt actually as quick. It was certainly as crashy though.
