Well after nearly 4 weeks of ownership I've finaly managed to wade through the pile of receipts from the former owners of my turbo 44. At 30 odd thousand miles it had a clutch replaced which I thought was rather early, and then I found a receipt for nearly £3000 for a bottom end engine rebuild at 50 thou miles [].
So.... has my car had the hell hammered out of it or is it plausible to think this is just unlucky? I thought with regular servicing these engines went on and on?
The good thing I suppose is that the engine was rebuilt by a specialist just prior to the previous owner buying it aproximately 14 years ago. So in a sense this rebuilt engine has only had one owner over the last 63 thousand miles (113 in total), and he too has had it regularly serviced.
It just makes me think what kind of a life has it led before the previous owner. It had 8 owners before the chap I bought it off. It makes me wonder how much stick the transmission, turbo etc have had.
The overall apearance and drive of the car suggests it has been well cared for, almost immaculate bodywork and interior, just a few stone chips on the paintwork and not a single dent in sight.
I know the Boxter engine had early teething problems, maybe the early turbo 44's had too???
Should I just stop thinking and enjoy the blxxdy thing?
Any thoughts chaps?
