I was driving to meet some friends this afternoon, I was making fast progress along a duel carriageway but as I came to pull away from a roundabout I noticed the car would not pick up properly, I check the oil pressure and to my horror it was about 1 on the dial (normally when warm 3-4). I could also hear a bad knocking coming from the engine. I nursed it 1/8 of a mile to my friends and cut the engine. After a lot of swearing and tea drinking I decided to see if it would run again. It wouldn't start, the engine would turn over half a turn and lock out. I knew now the engine was scrap. The odd thing is I got it started and it even made 3-4 on the oil pressure dial. But the damage has been done it has a very very big knock and a strange whine like a belt is slipping but coming from the other end of the engine. So can anyone help me out with another engine? Or if anyone would like the car, make me an offer as the rest is in very good condition.

Bugger! sorry to hear that. sounds strange that the failure was so catastrauphic with no warning. Do you have an idea as to what has let go?
Having said that you can always go down the re-bore route. I hear the 3.2ltr re-bores are pretty good!!
For engines you can try PH Sportscars in Shardlow nr Derby 01332 799 298 and ask for Pete. You could also try Porsche-a-part (havn't got their number but they have a website). Good luck.

Dont sell it... a guy i know obtained an S2 engine with 60k on it from porsche-a-apart for around 600 notes.
That sounds remarkably cheap to me, when I was looking all of the breakers wanted over £1,200 for an S2 engine. The cheapest I recall seeing (as I was tempted to buy it as a spare) was on eBay but even that was £800ish.

My 86 lux threw a big end shell after only a few weeks of owning it so I replaced it and then had it for 4 years there are lots of 2.5 lux engines out there it cost me £450 all in.

good luck in finding a good one

you tried ebay ? find some of the 44 breakers and email them. They don't always advertise everything they have .
The other option is drop the sump and replace the bearings with the engine in situ . and the pump of course. Its unlikely anything else got damaged.
Main bearings can be replaced with the crank in place by placing the new bearing on the open side of the crank journal and using it to push the old bearing out with the new bearing. Same with the thrust bearings. Only thing you can't replace is the crank seal but you might be lucky it may be ok. New big and main bearing set and sump gasket has got to be cheaper than a unknown second hand lump
