New Exhaust and a Great Specialist

Hi all. Just had a pair of new Dansk rear boxes and tips fitted by ADDSPEED a great independent specialist based in Horsham, West Sussex. They also fitted a pair of condenser and water radiators, which had rotted through, alongside all the extras for what I know was a great price compared to anyone else I had been to. All this and a free courtesy car for the day!

I should say I was a bit apprehensive at first as the place is set in an industrial estate at the back of another unit and looks, well, like the sort of garage you'd find in a vintage film. You see, having been used to BMW maindealer plushness I almost didn't go in but managed to overcome my prejudice and took the plunge. I think what clinched it was the wall to wall Porsches in various states of undress and not just oldies! Anyway, after a bit of negotiation with Keith, the owner, I was allowed into the workshop and spoke to the mechanics. They had all the diagnostic equipment and spoke "˜Porsche' like they had been brought up in Stuttgart. Even the receptionist knew her tips from her condensers!

So job done and of course I had a fantastic drive home enjoying a cool breeze from the vents and a symphony from the tailpipes. And no, I don't work for Addspeed or intend taking a bung from them but you can search high and low for a decent garage and judging by the number of "˜dealers' using this place I'm not the only one who thinks he's found one.

Sounds like you have found a little gem there Mark. And you'll save yourself a packet compared with an OPC. Forget the glass, chrome, and 'free' coffee - just old-fashioned service and value.

How much was the Dansk exhaust, by the way?

Hi Richard. I paid £694+Vat but that included Tips @ £125+Vat, the boxes plus 3 hours labour. The boxes on their own were £395+Vat (the cheapest quote I've found). Tempted?

The thing I've discovered about Dansk boxes is that at low or gentle revs they can be controlled to avoid unwanted attention (leaving home at 7am for example). However, at full throttle they really do sing; not boomy or with a drone, but a refined snarl. Because of this they clearly don't need to be switchable like a PSE. I am incredibly impressed. The boxes themselves, as a matter of interest, are also very attractive. From an engineering point of view they are faultless and nicely etched with the Dansk logo.
