Hi,[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]My '87 3.2 Sport needs a new exhaust as the priginal one has only lasted 20 years ![FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]So I need a rear silencer, pre-silencer and cross over pipe (exc. heat exchangers - I HOPE).[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I use the car fairly frequently and would like to do a track day or 2 in future so I'm looking for a sensible replacement which;[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]- won't be noiser than standard[FONT=verdana,geneva"]- fit my budget of up to £1000 all in (again I hope)[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I've read all the forum stuff and have a few questions.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Advice so far seems to be towards the Dansk SS OE replacement system. I went to Ragley and as people were leaving I heard some great sounding but LOUD 3.2 exhausts.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I have heard about bad resonances from SS replacements but as the original system was SS I assume that it's a feature of poorer replacements. I was going to try mild steel but so many epopel advise against it. They do seem to be a similar cost (Dansk anyway) and stories of failures after only a few years.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]So I assume that I should look at the 60mm single outlet Dansk rear box system.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]As I'm going to be spending quite a lot of money and with improvements in mind (for me and any future owner) I'm wondering if I should go for a twin outlet system (ie 2 X 70mm) - is this an option which up-dates the look without adding too much to the noise ?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Anyone fitted a non-sports SS recently and can give me feedback on the cost and sound affect.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Finally anyone fitted the Fabspeed Maxflow 70mm system which has an interesting option of running either sigle or twin outlet tips? I have heard that this will be loud.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Steve[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Silver 3.2 Coupe[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I was all set to get a Hayward & Scott system but at the last minute got a Billy Boat (American)
http://www.bbexhaust.com/
Very pleased with it.
Its a single outlet (like the original one) Im sure that its horses for courses at the end of the day. The H&S are very nice, I know a few people who have them, my dad has a Dansk - also very good.

Greetings
My car came with a Hayward and Scott exhaust when I bought it in Nov '04, the noise is fantastic[:D] Although my dear wife thinks otherwise[:-] I think they claim somewhere between 10-20 bhp extra! But it is loud-ish. I was up at Ragley Hall and can't remember hearing another H&S, but then I am getting on a bit, if you know what I mean.[]
Anyway I don't know what part of the world your in? but I'm NW London. If you want to have a look/listen your more than welcome[;)]
Also try their website, they've got a couple of before and after videos you can download. www.haywardandscott oops can't remember the rest! let Google find it. Good luck

I had twin outlet system on my SC and suffered from 2000rpm resonance and would certainly not pass trackday noise limits. I now have 3.2 Speedster that i have just fitted a M&K rear silencer retaining one in one out, very pleased improved sound with no resonance. Significant weight reduction as well. Will be replacing pre-silencer this winter not expecting significant noise increase. Check on Impactbumpers.com these guys have played with all sorts of exhuasts and have good comments on them.In addition some threads have video/sound clips attached so you can hear before you decide
Good Luck
Geoff

I'm helping my friend develop a new exhaust system for 3.2's, well he's doing all the talented stuff I'm just supplying the car and doing the before and afters on the dyno so we can get an accurate number on the power increase. He's working on two kinds of pre silencer and the main silencer. Should hopefully have more details shortly/very soon. Main problem is that I wanted to swap the old heat exchangers at the same time for some stainless steel ones, inevitably we've run into abit of a set back with sheared exhaust studs. Just a minor problem, I'll keep you posted.

Hi
I had a new stainless system on my 89 supersport recently, got it from performance marque ( ad in 911 & porsche world) cost around £500.00
Paragon fitted it for me during a service, quote from service manager ' that exhaust was a nice bit of kit '
ps original heat exchangers still on car.

A dual outlet will be louder than a single outlet as with a double only the gas that exits from the last outlet will be fully silenced.

Don't forget about GHL products in the USA too.

I had a full H&S system included heat exchangers fitted earlier this year. It certainly sounds fantastic but is louder than standard. At a recent track day it tested at 104.9 db, just scraping under the noise limit. I know that for other tracks the limit is lower so this option may pose a problem if you plan to do lots of track days.

In terms of perfprmance I didnt really notice much difference using the tried and tested buttometer. I had the car dyno'd shortly after fitting and came out with 220bhp. I didnt dyno the car before so have no way of knowing if it improved anything (the Steve Wong ship I have since fitted certainly did though - 237.9!).

One other point, I also get a lot of popping on the overrun. Some poeple like this but I find it a little tiresome at times. I would love to find a way to put paid to that.

I have yet to check that. I do know that there is a 'click' when the throttle is opened and closed by hand but its the adjustment that I have to get my head around. How easy is it to check operation and adjustment?

Collected my car from Turbo Thomas on Friday, new hand built pre silencer (now straight through) and a new main silencer. I can report that the throttle response is greatly improved and there is very little, if any popping on the overrun, think its popped once or twice since then. Sounds awesome too when giving it some beans, otherwise very little noise increase over standard on idle and cruising.

Just need to get it booked in on the dyno to see if there is any BHP gains.

Check out

think it needs some updating

[FONT=ms reference sans serif"]Dansk do a straight through sport pre silencer in stainless or mild steel they also do rear box in genuine painted SS or polished SS sport in single or twin outlet[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

That is it, sounds like it's OK.

I'll have a nearly new Dansk sports back box and a Schnell primary/cat by-pass pipe (both stainless steel) for sale soon if it's of interest. The combo sounds superb without being too loud and I'm only swapping them to go to SSI's.

By way of feedback and thanks for all the guidance, I went the safe route and fitted the Dansk direct replacement ie 60mm single outlet back box and also replaced the cross over pipe and pre-sliencer. It sounds near enough the same as before. So I'm £1000 lighter but I do have a shiny new exhaust which doesn't need plugging before each MOT and maybe it will even last as long as the original which it replaced.

well you could've spent half that and bought a Turbo Thomas pre-silencer and main silencer and gained near 16bhp

Has anyone ever fitted a DesignTek Race Sports Exhaust from Design911? Whats the sound and performance like?

I'm also thinking about fitting a Steve Wong chip upgrade. Will this match well?

Any help appreciated.
