New exhaust tips?

boggie

New member
Hi all,

The previous owner of my car has allowed the tailpipes to become a little black and crappy on the bottom lip. I have tried everything to remove it but the stainless itself has been damaged over the years.

Please can anyone point me in the direction of the best place to get new tips, assuming they are replaceable.....

Thanks,
B

I do not know how bad yours are inside but mine were pretty ropey,this is what i did got some good quality alloy cleaner the acid type my local garage let me have a jam jar full it was red in colour gave it a good do with it many times then used my fathers dremel with the stainless steel brush and all the black stuff came off and my tips are like new.I must admit i took the tips off as it was alot easier to get to.
Kind regards Brian

hope you find what you want.

Thanks! I tried these and others but I have the later sloping oval type like THESE and am finding it difficult to source OEM replacements. However, the cleaning option is worth a second try based upon the prices for other trims....

Cheers,

I am about to put mine on ebay. Will submit foto when I get home tonight. Unless you email me and I'll send direct. John

The ones on ebay wont fit as the fixing is centred and the 996 ones are off centre.

These are a bargain;

They are £175 each from Porsche!

Sort of fixed it. I gave the car my monthly treatment (proper jet wash rinse, soapy clean, clay bar, swissol wax, liquid leather etc) today. I tried the exhaust tip cleaner suggestions but only shifted it a bit. So I got a Stanley blade and effectively shaved the black deposit off little by little until it was almost gone. Then I used a worn pan scourer followed by scotchbrite then brasso wadding and a metal polish. The tips look much better now but are still not great. I am tempted to flat them off and spray with high temperature satin black. This would look good and not show the baked on tar. Unless yours are better John and we can agree a price......
